They have conceeded the 85% pay for getting laid off. So, you want the UAW to bow out and what, work for Wal Mart pay? Because you're saying that even with the same pay and benefits of Toyota, it won't be enough.

    What's enough??

What does an average UAW worker earn? I've heard from $30-$55/hour for regular time and much more for overtime and special pay.

McDonald's has a sign up at WalMart for $8.00/hour.

About 27-29 per hour. About the same as Toyota and close to what the Petro-Chem. industry in La. pays.

I really liked the bill that was defeated in the Senate. It required the auto industry to make the kind of changes that a bankruptcy court would have required as a condition of the bailout. But the UAW said no and the Democrats did not have the balls to buck them. The UAW runs the Democratic Party. So now there will likely be a bailout with no conditions. That is not going to do anything to make the Big 3 competitive. As a result, we can look forward to recurring bailouts for the Big 3 over the next few years. What a joke.

The alternative is to work nowhere for no pay. It's a no win. The union has done a great job of securing top pay and benefits for it's members, but they are killing the goose.

You are being slightly deceptive in this post. While the hourly wages of UAW and right to work auto employees are reasonably close (35-40 UAW vs 25-35 RTW) the total benefits package for UAW is way out of line with what the Japs pay.

In terms of total compensation UAW is pushing $90-$100/hr while the Japs are in the 4$0-45/hr category.

not hardly, if you remove the legacy costs (retireee benefits) it's comparable.

Again, why all the anti union post right here, but no one minds the fact that executive pay for the big 3 is 400 times their japanese counterparts?

My posts are not anti union. They merely express the reality of the situation.

Is it all the union? No blame to the execs? I guess compensating themselves in far excess of their foreign counterparts is just the good ole free market, where middle class blue collar workers are killing the golden goose.
