I'd rather do NO bailouts. I have been against the bailouts from the beginning. Most Americans will never see the trillion or whatever it was that the banks are now holding. About the big 3, What a charade this situation is. I'm willing to bet there is no way the Democrats won't bail out the UAW. Thats right, they aren't bailing out just the big 3 but the UAW, the elephant in the room. Does anyone actually think that the Democrats would actually let the big 3 go under when they have so many supporters in the UAW and the state of Michigan? Social Security and the teachers union will be next. Yes, the big 3 should file chapter 11 and restructure so that a judge can get them out of their union contracts. They also need to restructure other things such as I found out that Toyota has 5 dealerships in Denver while Ford has 12 dealerships.
After going to congress, the plan would probably end up giving the million to "needy" americans with the working stiffs paying the tab once again.
I agree with this. The only thing I disagree with this is the need for the financial bailout. I think that was necessary although the people should own that company until they're paid back. Beyond that, we can survive.
Bailout just delays the inevitable. UAW is the most corrupt and inefficient group in the world -- make them make changes...through bankruptcy if it comes to that.
I just can't for the life of me understand how people can be so anti-union and defend CEO pay. Here's a newsflash, the union represents working people, and you have a lot more in common with those guys than you'll ever have with a CEO and his outrageous salary and golden parachutes, given after they run a business into the ground. For all the anti union, take their benifits and pay posts I see here, I dont see as many railing against the fact that the executives in the US make 400 times more than their counterparts in Japan. why no complaints about their whining? Why is it only the working man who has to make concessions? Also not mentioned is the fact that the unions have taken pay cuts, and gone without raises to keep the benefits they have. What do you suggest they do? Just stop paying retirement to all the folks who worked hard for 30, 35 years? Maybe you want to take their retirement so that when they end up on welfare, you can bitch about that. That's another favorite here.
I dont think anyone wants retirees to lose their income any more then we want to see a worker lose his/her job. The problem is that the current contract provides so much in pay and benefits combined with the legacy payments that they cannot compete against the foreign manufacturers. I don't see how they can survive without serious concessions from the UAW.
