Incorrect statement. I did not vote for George Bush nor did I vote for Kerry. I didn't trust either one of them enough to cast my vote for them. Obama has done nothing but lie to the American public. He can't decide which political view point to take on somethings such as abortion, gay marriage and others. Because the repubs finally got the pig out of the ditch 4 years after the 2001 recession. The tax cuts in 01 and 03 had failed to work, so they dropped fed funds rates to 1% in 03-04, cratering the US dollar, and spiking inflation, sending home prices in Ca. up at 15% a year, causing the housing bubble with irresponsible fiscal policy. All that was done to get Bush re-elected in 04, and its chickens are coming home to roost. Don't forget it was about 1.20 in 2001, so an 80% increase under the repub president and congress. What did they do in the 6 years they controlled everything and could pass bills without threat of veto? What is Bush's role in this? He's been president since 01, with a repub controlled congress for 6 years. They destroyed the dollar (down 50% vs the Euro over that time), created a housing bubble that has burst, fought an unnecessary war in Iraq at a cost of about a trillion dollars so far, and another trillion or two in future cost to care for injured veterans and support Iraq, doubled the long term debt of the US govt. from 5 trillion to 10 trillion dollars in 8 years, let the inflation genie out of the bottle. Sheesh, Bush has replaced Carter as the worst president since 1950. We have also seen all this occur under Bush, and it was set up by poor fiscal and monetary policy by Bush, the repub congress from 01-06, and Greenspan as fed chairman (lifelong repub). If you don't believe it, explain to me what the dems did exactly that caused any one thing to actually occur in the last 2 years. You act as though the previous 6 years of total repub rule did not occur, or that the US economy can be made to dance on the head of a pin in one year. It is not true. Fiscal policy changes do not happen in one year. Their impact generally takes a year to kick in. An interest rate cut or increase is not felt for 6 months. Tax policy changes take longer.
By the time Bush took office the economy was declining. Before any of Bush's policies took place the economy was anemic. Do you blame Bush for the "recession" in 2001? If so, give me some specific policies of his that resulted in a major slowdown 1st quarter of 2001 on. (His first few months in office) This is when the slowdown started. The economy bottomed out at the beginning of 2002 (One year after Clinton left office.) and consistently performed better all the way to 2005, performed well in 2006, and had moderate growth in 2007. Since you seem to be the economist why don't you tell us what policies would have been better to turn the ailing economy around that Bush inherited? Why would any economist oppose cutting the feds fund rate when the economy is slow and inflation is low? Carter's last year in office: (1980) GDP -0.5% Inflation rate 13.5% Unemployment Rate 7.2% So when Greenspan was serving during the Clinton administration he did a wonderful job but during Bush's tenure he was corrupted by the Republicans.:insane: Yes and that "recession" you speak of above occurred less than a year after Clinton left office.
