Now, I may come off a little insensitive here but I really have to ask...who cares? I heard about the news yesterday while playing poker with my girlfriend's family and their family friend, an Auburn grad. I had the same sentiment, why should I care what happened to two trees that mean so much to one of my rivals? He quickly responded that I would be the same way of something happened to Mike the Tiger and I retorted that Mike the Tiger is a live, mobile, breathing animal...it's a little bit different than two immobile, stagnant trees that are used to support toilet paper after football games and be the posts for frat d-bags to stand around. Sure, if it happened to my campus and my school I'd be furious but I could careless about Auburn and their two trees that bring them pride. Why so much in an uproar now? The Auburn "Family" (which is as retarded as your "All in" phrase) practically took care of the trees themselves a few years back: All I'm saying is that until it happens to an LSU landmark or source of pride that I really don't care. The guy deserves what happens to him but I'm not going to mourn the passing of two trees...just like I wouldn't mourn the smelting of the Bear Bryant statue in retaliation if it happens. I will enjoy, with popcorn in hand, the fireworks from afar. This is like watching two women fight over who has the biggest boobs.
a "little"? :rolleye33: and btw, a tree is a "living" thing. i am far from an auburn fan, but this kind of vandalism is the most classless i have seen. it is poisoning the trees, soil, and possibly water. this isnt just graffiti that will wash off. the environmental implications could be long lasting.
I'm not saying what he did wasn't wrong or horrible but trees are killed all the time, these aren't the Redwoods or the Tropical Forests we're talking about here. How much you want to bet Auburn uses this as a way to make money off this incident? They use the trees, that are going to die, to fashion into thousands of little "AU" wood statues to sell in their souvenir shops.
"I think that I shall never see a poem lovely as a tree." Got to get you a copy of Joyce Kilmers classic stuff.
They are also not SYP -(Southern Yellow Pine). These trees were older than LSU, or close to it. The guy is lower than a snakes belley in a wheel rut.
And in 130 years, the trees will be back to what they were. Everything is not an easy fix, especially hearing that the groundwater may now be contaminated.
Tide fan is Dead Meat! There is sorrow in the Land of Toomer's Tree Hug. An Alabama fan lost it and apparently poisoned the two famous oaks, sacred to Auburn fans. Talk about rivalries! The brown stuff is really going to hit the whirling blades this coming season. --And no way am I posting this as condoning heinous vandalism, 'cause all of our schools have sacred areas, mascots, etc. which need to be respected. Just saying, things will be hot & nasty in 'Bama, real soon! (Hatfields vs the Floys). <http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_auburn_trees_poisoned>
You got to the party a little bit late, haha http://forums.tigerfan.com/roundtable/104583-auburn-toomers-corner-oaks-poisoned.html
