Actually, Hunter got punished more severely than others who have broken that law. Why hasn't the NRA stepped up to defend him?

Hunter should suffer the legal punishments prescribed, as should everybody else. It's pretty absurd, though, to think that filling out a form or two satisfies the need for sensible gun control laws.
