Maybe now all LSU fans can apppreciate when an owner or GM of a professional team answers reporters questions with the standard line of "we will wait till the offseason" when asked about the coaches job. New Englanders were calling for Belichek's(?) head when they started the season 0-3 a couple of years ago, they all look pretty foolish now, 2 championships later. Patience is such an overlooked commodity.
No I did not. Your original post implied that Smoke should get no credit for this win. My point is Smoke and the players get the credit.
The fact is this, most of the time it's a combination of both coaching and the players that wins and loses games, but there are certain situations in which credit can be given to one side. For instance, that homerun by Harris is totally credited to Harris, not Smoke. So I think your statement that you can't pick and choose, is false. For the record, I have never expressed any dislike for Smoke and I never have had a problem with his coaching.
Do not forget Jean. We will have to win at least 3 out of the next five CWS to have Jean say Smoke can coach.
Lets face it. Smoke just can't hit home runs and pitch shutouts the way Skip did when he was the coach.
Smoke doesn't make home runs or errors but he did, imo, make some damn good calls as far as our pitchers go yesterday and today. The team won the SR and are going to Omaha.
The home run didn't win the game although it was great. Clay's sac fly was the winner which a team effort set up.
Yes team effort. After those first 2 errors, this was probably the finest defensive performance for those last 7 innings or so.
I am not one to get into name calling or mudslinging because I dont have an argument but your argument here almost brought me there.... are you that clueless to think any homerun is because the coach called for it? ok dont take the pitch....hit a hr instead? do you think Smoke had Lane available for the clinching game by accident? Do you think Smoke had Will Harris batting 8th where that pitcher had to groove him one instead of pitching around him? Gill behind him is a true 2/3 hitter. coincidence? hmmm. a 3 hitter in the 9 spot. damn that smoke is lucky. whether you dislike smoke or not, your credence for any coaching acumen is negative at best. try to open your eyes for future reference. no slam intended. just trying to open your eyes to the real game you miss while viewing LSU advance.
