...Let's give Smoke a big raise and extension! He's AWESOME man!!! :tigbas: :champs: :bball: :geaux:  :lsug:
Or we could just give the players a pat on the back. Afterall, it was Harris that hit that HR. BTW, I am in no way taking anything away from Smoke, but face it, the players won this one today.
I was actually being sarcastic. I'm one of the fans that's given him a hard time. I think he's done a good job, though. I think the players did a fantastic job, too. I was standing there holding my 8-week-old son (future LSU hall-of-famer, to be sure) when Harris snagged that pitch and I knew it was gone the instant it left the bat. I'd just told my wife, "we need a BIG home run here..." So, you know what...I'M the reason we're headed to Omaha!!! LOL Just kidding...way to GEAUX TIGERS!!!
But seriously, do you think you were premature with your evaluation of Smoke earlier in the season? I mean do you now feel foolish for being so hard on him? I am really curious to know. Not trying to make any judgements.
And if those 1st inning errors cost us the game, would that be the players? You can't pick and choose, like, "Smoke lost this one" or the "players won that one". It's a combined effort and all get the credit or the blame. That aside, we still have to win 2 in the CWS in order to impress Li'lCrawfishDick, or whatever the hell his name is.
No, I don't feel foolish. Even though I was critical, I never called for his firing. Others on this board (I'll refrain from using LSUSportsFreak's name...oops) seemed to think that being critical of Smoke was tantamount to wanting him fired. I think the Tigers have recovered nicely and seeing that the SEC will be half of the field in the CWS shows just how strong the SEC is. It makes LSU's SEC record look much more impressive.
I'm impressed no matter what happens at the CWS now. Of course, I do want another championship poster for my wall of champions...
"but face it, the players won this one today" The players also lost the games in the SEC Tournament. Smoke hasn't made an on base error all year nor has he walked a batter or given up a hit.
