i do not see any irony in that. maybe if he was refusing to be recruited as a suicide bomber, that would be hypocritical, but not really, because leaders tell others to go to battle, they don't have to go themselves. there is no irony. explain again how there is irony.

"They" killed him, Supafan? Just out of curiosity, who are "they?" I hope that was just an innocent mistake on your part and not a Freudian slip, or, even worse, a charge of some sort of Zionist conspiracy, that THEY (the war-mongering, Zionist Jews) killed Rabin because he was too cozy with the Palestinians.

Rabin was killed not by any "they," but by a lone assassin, a deeply troubled young man who had lost family members to Palestinian terrorists and who said God told him to kill Rabin. Yes it was tragic, and yes, you might say any true hope of peace in that region died with Yitzak Rabin. But, who is to say that, had Rabin lived, things wouldn't have turned out exactly as they have? I think that is more than likely what would've happened and that it is the so-called "Palestinians" who don't really want peace.

Heck, at Camp David in 2000, Arafat turned down a peace offer that would've meant true statehood for "Palestine." 97% of the West Bank and all of Gaza was on the table, with the future possibility of joint control of Jerusalem. He turned it down and then started the latest Intifada a few months later.

The current mentality that prevails among the leaders of the Arab/Islamic world can be seen for all it really is in this Arafat on deathbed situation. He is being kept alive on a ventilator while his wife and underlings haggle about who will get control of the $3 billion he stole from international aid organizations, the UN, the EU, the American taxpayer, and, ultimately, the "Palestinian" people. Three billion dollars. More than enough to close the squalid refugee camps and permanently, comfortably resettle every single Arab family in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza anywhere they wanted to go; the 31 Arab states that already exist (no reason to create another), Europe, Canada, America, ANYWHERE! Yet, Arafat got rich while they were intentionally kept in the camps to be a fester sore to stoke the fires of Arab anti-Semitism. Anybody besides me see a problem with that?

Just pull the plug already and be done with it.

I believe what LSUsupaFan was attempting to say was that...

"Do you think the Israelis really want peace after Rabin was assassinated? During that time Israel was working hard for peace and then they <Palestinian extremists> killed Rabin. This pissed off Isrealis and they no longer care about peace."

......or perhaps he meant something totally different. :)

The irony is that arafat, et al convince these young men to martyr themselves by telling them of the pleasures that await them in paradise (virgins and all that). Yet. when it's time for arafat to log some face time with allah he has to be dragged away kicking and screaming. To quote Skip Bertman: See?

Aw, I was just poppin' off at BengalB's cynical remark, he knows I like him. Not bashing any messengers.

And what message are you talking about? I was annoyed about his mentioning Arafat and Arlington Cemetary in the same breath . . . and then blaming Kerry. It called for a retort. It's a forum for discussion, after all.

There are a lot of "attitudes" around here, amigo. Not everybody is going to agree with you all of the time. But you give good advice about listening instead of just bashing a character who is expressing himself. It also applies to you, I presume.

that makes no sense for many reasons.

just dying of being old isnt martyring yourself. there is no irony in telling others to die for a cause, while wanting to not die yourself of old age and disease or whatever. besides, like i said, leaders tell others to die for the cause, they dont die themselves. thats what leaders do. effectively bush is telling kids to die for the cause, maybe he should fire his secret service guys and get assassinated to avoid irony?

you don't understand what irony is.

also, you probably believe in a heavenly paradise, but i bet you would do all you can to avoid going there too.
