I think that SJSU was a possibility but didn't work out and we had to settle for WIU. Supposedly the AD is going to stiffen the backout clause of future contracts ( about time ). As for the list by SoLA in ILL - it would be good to schedule those teams every few years to "round out" the exposure, and that is something that I think will begin to happen. But as has been said many times by the LSU AD, they want 7 home games every season and they can control the schedule to get that. I wouldn't look for things to change for LSU unless they begin to change for everyone else in the SEC/NCAA.
Travis Co, we play all those teams at home only, yet we TRAVEL TO Arizona. There is a huge difference in terms of schools with which we would enter into a home and home contract and those we would play at home only. Playing a home and home brings into play factors such as recruiting, exposure in that area of the country, travel expenses, fan interest, etc. Despite the responses to my original post, I am still not convinced that playing Arizona will benefit LSU as a whole, at least not as much as some other games would. That said, playing Western Illinois is pretty sad.
Water Ski, don't let any of the Aggie lurkers on here (if there are any) catch word of stiffening backout clauses, or the whole "LSU owes A&M $200,000 for 'chickening out' on the contract" will start in an instant. I guess my question is why did playing Arizona even come up? Did someone have a list of schools similar to mine above and say, "Arizona -- now that's a team we should schedule a home-and-home with!!!" or did it evolve from the basketball relationship? I'm not trying to bash the AD for scheduling this game; I'm trying to understand why it was scheduled. Is there something I'm missing?
coming out to arizona? I do not know why LSU scheduled AZ in football (obvious for bball), but I am very happy because I live in Tucson. I am from Lake Charles and grew up loving LSU and going to Football games as a kid and young adult (though I went to school at Mcneese) Anyway, for those fans coming out to the AZ game, I have a huge tailgate planned for LSU fans set up through the UofA athletic department. It is sure to be a great time and the liveliest game of the year here, other than ASU. I have had season tickets here the last three years and it's not Death Valley to say the least but we will sure have a good time for this game. Friday night there will be a party at the french quarter restaraunt here in town and I will be hosting the big tailgate party on Saturday, so if you are coming to AZ bring your golf clubs and your Tiger gear.
Welcome aztiger! Thanks for the info on the tailgating. Please stick around and keep TigerForums.com visitors posted on what you have planned in Zona.
Wasn't this the year the Tigers were supposed to play BYU? I think Arizona replaced them, but I'm not sure about this.
