They absolutely would and I believe Aranda would absolutely retain them. My gut says Woodward’s 1st choice is Riley (he’s a big game hunter), he is awaiting an answer, he has Jimbo as a non-guaranteed fallback and if that falls through and he has to take a chance on an up and comer, it’s Aranda’s job to turn down.

The comments that 3 current coaches have already been told by Woodward they’re being retained makes me believe it’s Jimbo or Aranda, and Aranda more so than Jimbo. Dave is very close to Joseph and Raymond to the point he wouldn’t even have to interview them.

Thanks! Don’t get me wrong, Riley would be a fantastic hire, but I just don’t see him leaving OU. And although Jimbo is a name, i think the interest in him from the LSU faithful has cooled from what it was Alleva screwed the pooch. That is why I am a heavy lean to Aranda.

Makes a lot of sense. I like the idea of keeping those guys - especially RayRay. If the story is true about keeping 3 assistants I don't see how it can be Jimbo or Riley. Neither of those guys is going to take a HC job if they aren't allowed to pick their staff. Jimbo/Riley might know them and strongly consider hiring them. But they have to be given a chance to at least interview them. No coach in his right mind would hire staff without interviewing them first. Who would do that?
    Oh yeh.
    Nevermind.

I hear ya, but money talks. The sheer amount of money numbers being tossed around is unbelievable. I still can't believe it myself, but got somewhat of a solid verification today, at least on possible money. Had heard $11+M, which I was shocked at, but now up to as much as $13+M per year.

Would Riley leave for a $5M raise, plus a guaranteed 5-6 year contract? Riley makes $7.67M today. I don't see why not, from Texas coaching in Oklahoma. Is the Red River Shootout that important to Riley? I don't know. They're coming to the SEC anyway.

From what I've heard if it's Riley or whoever, Woodward's guy, "He's willing to to pay whatever it takes to get him here."

This is easily Woodward's defining decision as an LSU AD, possibly his career. "Everyone's watching on this."

I'd pick Riley #1, Aranda #2 & Jimbo is the most puzzling choice of the 3 listed, imo. I get that he beat Bama this year & have heard Woodward really admires Saban. Since Woodward signed off on Jimbo's A&M contract, maybe he left a contractual backdoor for himself?

    Take a look:

    Jimbo Fisher: 115-35 (FSU & A&M)
    (SEC 32-12)
    Les Miles: 114-34 (LSU)

Basically the same winning percentage, except Miles did all of that in the SEC, while most of Jimbo's biggest wins came at FSU. But he's looked pretty average in the SEC, imo.

Correct, from what I heard Riley’s agent has driven the price to nearly $13. Woodward has a man crush on Jimbo as do a few big money guys in BR and after he beat Saban a few weeks ago his name picked up steam. While his record is comparable to Miles, I believe that the SEC West in particular is more difficult week in and week out than it was when Les 1st got here. Les was a good football coach, Jimbo is a good football coach.

What is Riley? Well, he hasn’t coached in the SEC so we can’t compare resumes as easily. But he has sustained success at OU after being handed the keys, he has developed elite QB’s who have found success at the next level and he has continually found ways to win games and make the playoffs (albeit in the Big 12) but with less talent top to bottom than he would have access to at LSU, especially on defense.

Dave is a brilliant football mind and well respected in the coaching world. In my opinion, what makes Head Coaches great, is their ability to develop not just their players, but more importantly, their coaches. I think Dave is going to find a lot of success as a HC because he can do that. He can tell both his OC and his DC how to adjust because he knows what defensive sets will stop an offense and he knows what offensive sets will light up a defense. He can teach his coaches how to coach better and that’s huge and could end making Dave a great head college football one day.

Regardless of who it is there are a few certainties.

    1) LSU all but recruits itself (especially if you keep the key guys Raymond & Joseph)
    2) You’re going to need a dynamic QB to win a championship
    3) You’re going to need a defense to win a championship.

People can say what they want about Aranda and his bend but don’t break defense, but his 2019 defense came through when it mattered. In the Auburn game when our offense was struggling. In the playoffs against OU (probably the most complete game I’ve ever witnessed) and against Clemson in the natty. The 1st and only game of Lawrence’s career without a TD pass

Riley would need to bring a great DC and let him build a strong defense. Very doable.

Dave would need to bring a great OC and have him build a strong offense. Very doable.

Jimbo, he needs to innovate his offense a little more. He is more like Miles where he is stubborn in not wanting to adjust when his shit isn’t working. But when it’s working, it’s difficult to stop. I just think he would continually fall short of the ultimate goal. I’d prefer he stay at A&M and do that.

Perp, are you the one of the LoveLes Quartet that works for the athletic department? Anyway, maybe you are being told that information by the other. Maybe it is @unclenick. It is incredible by any means if true. Is it necessary to go and get the biggest name one can pull in?

Saban was coach at Michigan St. when he was hired. Miles was coach at Ok St. Orgeron was a kicked around D line coach with a failed Ole Miss resume. They all won national championships here.

Again, is it being passed around that LSU really needs the biggest name it can get?
