Are we a better team with or without Tack?

Tack would be more valuable next year when we lost D. Michell. He will provide stability to the program. All Tack needs to understand is this is a team sport. One more year of maturity does not hurt Tack for sure.

overall, we would be better without. i think he may win a game or two for us but i also believe with his turn overs and careless play he would cause us more losses than wins. plus i think his attitude is bad, not that he is a trouble maker but his attitude and relationship with brady. i think this is contagious on a team and maybe the chemistry wouldnt be as good, esp. with this many young players.

    My perspective would be:

We WOULD be better off this season if Tack was on the team, PURELY because we do not have any depth at guard, ALTHOUGH I think "better off" is a very minor  relative benefit. I say that because I don't think that our results (i.e. W-L record) at this stage of the game would be much different with Tack in the rotation, but I think that as the season went on Tack would have improved, found a role on this team and would have taken some of the pressure off D.Mitch, and kept minutes for D.Mitch and Temple more reasonable. I also think that as the season went on there would be improvement from Tack in his play (clearly there was rust when he came back from having no practice and playing right away and he started to come around right when he got hurt at Cincy) and there would have been times where his speed and offense, and ball handling, would allow the Tigers to match up against certain teams better.

All this said, I do believe at this point in time that benefit would be marginal because having him play and try to adjust to coming back first, midseason, and then second, after his injury, is more of a distraction than smooth transition, especially given how D.Mitch has really come on recently. And, I've always personally struggled with the backcourt effectiveness of having both Minor and Mitchell (our sub 6' backcourt) together on the court at the same time. I think long term for Tack, having the time to play more and practice more with the team, having this summer to develop more, and then have 2 full years with LSU is ultimately better for him. So, I agree with redshirting him this season and keeping him out.

I've never been the biggest Tack fan given that he is erratic and doesn't always show the best "PG" mentality, but I'll give the kid credit for sticking with the program and improving over time. If the kid really starts to take his career seriously, plays ball in Houston with Lucas in the Houston NBA summer league, and comes back at the BEGINNING of the season ready to play, I think we're going to be pleasantly surprised with a rotation of Tack, Mason, Martin and Temple at guards with Ben Voogd playing back up PG.

I also think the Tigers enjoy some benefit of having Tack happily engaged with the program, as he's a Houston product (and only TX player) in a very important recruiting hotbed for us. His ultimate success and happiness with LSU will go a ways in us landing more East Texas bball recruits (I hope) in the future. So, I am pulling for Tack to come back strong... :geauxtige

Without, but it would be nice to have him as a back up option. He was very overrated and caused more problems on the court than he solved. Not a smart player

maybe he should transfer. his attitude wont let him be a backup option.

or maybe he's the best point guard on the team. and by maybe I mean definately. He's a scoring threat, he can DRIBBLE THE BALL!!!! He can beat the press, and the opposing point guard doesnt just dribble past him. If we had Tack in the line up there's no question we'd be playing better down the stretch. I like GT but he really isnt much of an option on offense and he can't beat the press. He's too slow to defend a fast guard off the dribble.

You bring up some good points, but you ignore that he's out of control. He also has the ability to consistently turn the ball over, not be a team player, keep the tempo too high for our lack of depth, and force things that aren't there.

true, but I can't help but think that after everything, and with the new leadership on the team, he'd be "kept in line" I dunno, I agree with him being out of control, and not be a team player, but how much would it open things up for our guys inside if we had a shooter with his ability to dribble penetrate?

Off subject and not to hijack the thread but, with LSU's athleticism you'd think we'd see more back door cuts and alley oops thrown... something minor used to utilize with brandon bass on the baseline last year.

I kind of get the impression that you're a brady hater, and you complain about his inability to keep players... then you make a comment like this. Perhaps the "fans" aren't helping the program?

Tack should not transfer. He should continue to work hard, compete to start next year and lead a talented team to win the SEC... :geauxtige
