Yeah, but that was good ol' Sid Crocker at the mike. The echo was part of the gig: "DOCTOR NUMBER 467 DOCTOR NUMBER 467"
I looked for an article to confirm this, but I couldn’t find it. Anyway at the start of last season it was on either WAFB or WBRZ where they talked about how they had replaced both screens with new HD screens. Obviously it is 4x3 still and not 16x9. Nobody noticed how much better the video quality was last year? I took one look at it in the ULL game and could tell right away it was HD. If you look closely you can tell on the borders where the screen used to be and how a smaller screen has taken its place. Anyway since they just spent money for those new screens, I think that lessens the chances that they will replace the whole thing for a widescreen anytime soon. So the monument to corporate advertising as I like to call it will live on for a few more years…
I've been to stadiums that use those ultra-large video screens. To be honest, I like the stadiums that stick with the smaller screens, but use more of them. As example, in the S endzone of Bryant Denny we still have the jumbotron we've had for the last few years. In the N endzone, they've erected two, one in each corner. So, no matter where you are sitting you'll be able to see a replay when you want to. It's made for a better experience at football games. I'm thankful the quality of the pictures are improving with the stadiums moving more and more to HD quality.
