Ok i voted yes, and here is why.

05 we get to the SECCG and win the West in Miles first season. 06 we had a squad, maybe the best LSU has ever had, make it to the BCS and win the Sugar Bowl. 07 you know what happened. Miles gets paid, and things start to crack.

Being that Miles got us a championship in year 3, there is no other way to go but down. Just seeing some of the decisions, and moves, play calling, personnel, game management since 05 its pretty glaring. Now, does it take Vince Lombardi to win championships, no it doesn't, so i think we can get back to the mountain top, but i am having a hard time believing we will. Will i tuck tail and run, no, i will still wear my purple and gold even if we go 0-12. However i cannot deny that there has been some slippage since Miles got paid. I am trying to stay optimistic but, its hard. I will continue to support this coaching staff as long as they are at LSU, but i have little faith.

Once again, excellent post, 327. I hope this isn't copyright infringement, but I used an exert from your post in my signature (right below the Who Dat Cougar).

The wheels are'nt falling off but they certainly have a wobble to them and I think after next year we will have a much better idea.

I'll have full confidence in Miles' tenure again if I see a few things resurface that have become uncharacteristic of his teams since 2007:

    1. A team that plays disciplined, focused football with a sense of urgency for 4 quarters. It's very simple: LSU will never beat top teams the way they played the last 2 years when they wake up in the 2nd half and realize they actually need to put points on the board to win. Also no excuse for squeaking by a team like La Tech at home. None.
    2. A sense of hard-nosed nastiness in the trenches in particular and on D in general. LSU's lines were dominated last year by bigger, stronger ones all season long. That is embarrassing, and has to change to take pressure off the QB and the back 7.
    3. Properly managing the clock. While Ole Miss was the most glaring example, this problem goes all the way back to the useless timeouts against Washington that led to a UW score before the half. If Les is incapable of improving in this area, appoint an assistant to make this his sole responsibility.
    4. Actually make halftime adjustments. I'll be darned if I can think of any last season.
    5. Maximize the use of available talent and coach up young players to their potential. See Trindon Holliday and RS.

We'll know the answer to the OP's question this December. The East should have a relatively down year, and LSU has a favorable schedule with West opponents. It's tailor-made for a SECCG run. But Les also needs to win a much tougher OOC slate. An 8 win season with a possible additional loss to Arky will make Les' seat a lot hotter.

what you are writing doesnt equate to "wheels falling off". there is a difference between a drop and "wheels falling off".

"wheels falling off" is what happened under dinardo and archer (ironically not hallman)

I voted "maybe" because the answer I wanted to click wasn't available and that's "Football is cyclical. This is normal."

I think LSU is going through one of those phases that is very common with the cyclical nature of success in college football. I know from an LSU fan's perspective it might be hard to step back and see it as that. But LSU has really followed about the average pattern of the ebbs and flows of this cycle which is roughly about a five to six year window. From what, 2002 to 2007 LSU won 3 SEC titles (check me on that), 2 NC's and had a three year span of winning 11+ games. That is effin' impressive and tough to sustain in the SEC.

Right now I think its too early to hit a panic button and say the "wheels are falling off" because winning 9 games in back to back years is FAR, FAR from "the wheels falling off." "The wheels are falling off" is when you start having 7 win seasons and the seventh win is a bowl game.

I think the 2010 season will give y'all good litmus test on where "things are headed.".
