There is actually a problem with fans that support a coach no matter what. Bandwagon fans are actually what drives a University to make the best highers & put the most competitive team on the field. You see, if they make the same revenue regardless of how the team does, they have an incentive to lower costs and higher the cheapest/worst coach available. Going to games is the way fans voice their approval. Not going is how they voice their disproval. I think the fans have spoken on their opinions about John Brady. True fans will support the team no matter what. True fans will also realize that at some point, a coach has to be held responsible and need to express their opinion accordingly. Team support, to me, means appreciating everything those players put forth & being happy for them when they do good. It doesn't necessarily mean going to every game regardless of how horribly they play or how horribly they are coached. I feel like alot of other people. John Brady is alright. He'll keep the program at a level slightly above mediocracy. If we want better things, we'll probably need to look in other areas.
Here is an honest response for you. Early in the season I felt that based on the way things were going with the non-conference losses, I would have understood if he were fired back then. At the same time I really felt that he could put together a nice run at some point. I just did not know for how long. To my surprise, it was beyond anything I could have ever expected. The tournament and LSU's success in the tournament is important to me though. LSU was truly embarassing to watch during that game. Watching how the outside had gone in the past couple of weeks, I was stunned to see them go ice cold in that game. Couple that with UAB's zone being very effective inside, and it made for a long day. I figure Brady counted on the outside game being successful and thus pulling defenders away form the big guys inside and opening up the paint. Sadly, it ultimately could not have gone much worse. As during the season I would have understood Brady being fired, the same thing can be said now. I can see reasons either way -- to keep him or to fire him. Attendance has to be an issue and who knows the administration may blame Brady in part for it. His team certainly did not compete, for whatever reasons, in the tournament. Maybe there actually were some bad words exchanged between him and players early in the season -- as some here would like for us to believe -- and perhaps some of those things still linger. Like I said, I woudl be able to find some understanding if he were fired. However, I do not believe he should go. It has taken a while for LSU to get back on the level where Brady can consistently get great recruits into the program. This is not like '00 when Stro was a one man team in many cases, with solid backup play from Jabari and other role-players. The product I am seeing on the court now has better players throughout the starting lineup. I can't wait to see next year's team! In my mind, things are looking up for the LSU basketball team and the near future is very very bright. I say give the guy the opportunity to continue his good work.
The Gerry Dinardo comparison is crap. Dinardo had 2 losing seasons in a row in the big money making sport. The sport people live for. Of course he's going to get canned. Brady coaches the 3rd sport in the LSU mens department. If not financially, its atleast in the hearts of the fans. Now, Brady has gone to the tourney 2 0f the last 3 years. It woulda been 3 in a row if Jaime stays healthy. I'd say thats a lil better then Dinardo going 3-8 or 4-7 two years in a row. I agree with Grad on this one. Even the players in the paper said about the UAB game that they were prepared. The coaches had them ready. They just bombed. I'll give you this TE and other haters of Brady, he coached a piss poor game. It was bad. But, it was bad on all fronts. It wasnt just the coach. I think that Brady should be here atleast another year. He def will have lots of talent this upcoming year. He does need to start winning in the tourney. I agree there. But, there is really no grounds to fire him at this point. Atleast from this year. All a coach can do is win. Brady won every SEC home game this year. If people dont come, its hard to fathom.
What things are those? What have I talked about from a personal standpoint? Please inform me, since that what it seems like to you? He's no friend of mine, and as far as "good guy", that's debatable as well, but I've talked enough to some of the senior members of your Butt Munch Lunch Bunch groups, and I have steadfastly refused to get into off the court character issues all of us know about, but some (read pro-Brady) of us wish to marginalize. Needless to say, he's no good guy. Very telling that you have a personal tie to him, and you are 100% pro Brady...Would anyone expect any less from a "personal friend of the family"? Hmmmm.... Show me one post where I've said this. I'd challenge you, but we both know you'd fail, because I've never made nor insinuated this. You addressed me with this post, and I think that it's ignorant to put words in my mouth-yet again-from a Brady supporter. Bottom line is that it-as in LSU-is not a hotbed. But, we do have money. We have shown that as an institution, we will pay for, seek out, and hire the best coaches the country has to offer in exchange for their results and their production. This makes LSU attractive. The money. However it accomplishes it, I don't care. LSU is at a point where we have paid for excellence. We have received it. The formula is simple. If we can't get them to come on our merits, then we will pay them in legal tender for all debts, public and private. Your opinion has been PROVEN to be personally motivated by a family friendship. My opinion is fueled by the thought that LSU can reach the Sweet 16 in its sleep. 2nd round losses will be eyebrow raisers...We can reach the goals...but we cannot do it with this man as coach...We need a change, and no family friend is whispering in my ear or granting me interviews or glad-handing me in order to make those statements...
LSU has the luxury of being able to make money on baseball. Basketball has really become the kid brother at LSU. I don't exactly like it that way, but it's true. I also don't get the impression that LSU fans want to see LSU basketball 15 times a year. It's during the week, it's late at night, it's inside during some of LA's best weather, it's often televised, it's a sport that is very easy to listen to on the radio, on and on and on. Again, I don't exactly like it that way, but I believe it's true. LSU fans are a tough bunch to attract when it comes to basketball. I know what I'm trying to say, but I'm having a difficult time figuring out how to explain it. I guess it's like the gymnastics team - for some strange reason (and not because they are #1) I have a strong desire to attend one of their meets / shows / matches (?) - they have, for some reason, pulled at me to spend my time and money on something other than football and baseball. I think that LSU Men's Basketball requires a star player to get the real crowds in the building. Does what I'm saying make any sense?
That's right...blame Lloreda, just like Brady did...I wonder...Who was responsible for recruiting Lloreda...and...Tell me again how much it was a "health" decision for Lloreda leaving? Lloreda was the ONLY reason we did as well as we did for two years, but he put far more black marks on the program than anyone in recent memory has...Brady mortgaged prestige for wins that would save his hide, and then got burned for it in the end when his headcase prize chump punked out in crunchtime... You have a revisionist historian's view of the end of last season...Lloreda culminated a terrible tenure as a TRUE THUG at LSU with the perfect sendoff...Leaving the team ala Christian Driejer of Florida...Right when it needed him most... Just goes to show what Brady will do in order to win...Bring in talented but unscrupulous players who will sell out in a heartbeat...I love the Lloreda crutch...LOL!
no. thats a fantastic new word you made up. you should patent it and define it as "a system of government where the mediocre rule". i think the word you meant is mediocrity. i feel the same way except i prefer basketball to football. also i dont think the coach is responsible for putting people in the seats. however, i do think the fans that do not attend could be part of the problem, in that recruits like to come to play for packed houses and fans help teams win.
TE, you have issues with the man. Thats the bottom line. You dont like him. I happen to like him and think he's a good guy. You can think differently. But, the fact taht he's a friend doesnt affect my perspective of him as a coach. I dont think he's a great coach. But, then again, there arent a lot of great coaches otu there. And those who are great coaches, wont come to LSU. Brady's a good coach. If they would have won only 14 games this year then I woulda thought differently. But, they won 20 games this year. They were undefeated at home. They beat 3 ranked teams at home. Sure the NCAA tourney was embarsssing for them ,but that doesnt diminish the fact taht they had a great year and one deserving of another year for JB. I dont think he deserves an extention right now, but he deserves atleast 1 more year.
