Then why charge your customers for a plan just to read an e-book? Just slap an SD slot on it and call it the I-Book. They didn't do that. It's obvious they want it to be more like a tablet computer. They failed.
unfortunately, providing clock functionality is a bit more simple than providing computer functionality because they think people will want to access the net. if they intended for it to be a computer they would provide more than 16 mb memory.
from "doonesbury" this morning.... "Apple means to do nothing less than reshape the world by charging us for things that used to be free. from music to news to books, Jobs seems to think if you get the delivery right and using lots of helvetica, people will pay for content." :hihi:
16 mb of memory won't hold War and Peace. I think you mean Gb. So the only way I can read a book is if I buy a required content plan and download it from the Internet? Unless I buy some stupid adapters so I can transfer from USB or SD? Still, no thanks.
from what it looks like, you can manage it all in itunes. I bet/hope itunes will get an upgrade soon so that there are more different things that can be synced.
Yeah it looks like the base model will be Wifi and then they will have a 3G version optional. Still don't think I want one without the USB and SD built in. It would be great to just bring it on a trip to view photos\video from your cameras.
The iPad is lame. It's an overgrown iPod touch. An onscreen keyboard is fine for a small device, but as big as the iPad is, you'd have to try to type on it like a normal keyboard. That isn't going to work very well if you have it sitting on a table, since the back is rounded. It also doesn't run more than one app at once, just like the iPhone/iPod touch. With all the power this thing supposedly has, it should be able to run multiple apps with ease. Apple still hasn't added Flash to Mobile Safari. That might be excuseable on a phone, but not on an almost 10" screen. I have an iPhone, but I definitely won't be getting an iPad. It has the same and perhaps more limitations than the iPhone.
It's not going to replace laptops. What the iPod did for portable music, the iPad will do for portable movie playing and book reading, as well as music, email, and web surfing. The price will come down 25-35% and the memory will double within a year, if Apple runs true to form. You pay to be the first on your block . . .
