What I said was you seem to be "out of touch" and I didn't mean it to be offensive. Just as in not near a college lately or a non-traditional business. I don't think you're ignorant at all, just a bit behind the times.

I think if you looked outside your own shop, you might realize that many things have changed, especially since Mac abandoned IBM and went to Intel processors. Even the hard-core Windows geeks in my department have started running 64-bit Windows 7 on Mac Pro machines. It ain't cheap but a loaded Mac is one of the most powerful scientific computer platforms out there.

Again if you measure a machine by market share, Hyundai beats the hell out of Rolls Royce. My point is that Apple has already gone the long way as far as power users are concerned, even in business. They aren't trying to sell the most computers, they are trying to sell the most effective computers.

Ever hear of a company called Walt DIsney? How about Pixar? Industrial Light and Magic? I'm sure you will someday.

Red, still you assume to know what I know, or in this case your assumption of what I do not know. Assuming I am behind the times because I disagree with you is rude, and a pretty feeble attempt to invalidate my point of view.

Another assumption... didn't know you have access to my calendar, people I associate with inside and outside of work, and in general know anything beyond what I have typed here. I don't see people using Macs very often to even consider them some sort of great machine or in popular use. I do run across an Apple die hard every once and a while. But we are talking 10 to 1 ratios here. And yes this could have something to do with who I hang around with, but then again that would be a plus in my opinion, as most of my friends are in the IT or gaming industry.

You can compare Apple to RR or Rolex all you want, that doesn't make Apple some sort of great machine that everyone desires. Because that is clearly not the case, no matter how you may feel about it. When I worked for Volkswagen, Audi, Bentley, and RR for the first part of this decade, you know what I never saw...

Anyway, I respect your opinion on the matter, I agree that Apple has grown and has good footing currently to grow even more. I hope Apple gives everyone a run for their money, as it only makes my industry that much better. And one day, maybe they win me over, that day isn’t today. One thing for sure is, they are on their way, and doing way better today than 6-7 years ago when they almost had to close the doors. Cheers.

You are WAY too sensitive about this, amigo. I'm not attacking you or the machine you work on, just pointing out some outdated misconceptions you have about how macs are used, what for, and by whom.

I'm shocked to hear that. Shocked, I tell you.

What you are saying is that your perspective is very insular. Which is exactly what I had been suggesting all along. You don't see a lot of Macs so you don't know much about them. Well, I do and I know what I'm talking about. You can take it or leave it, but there is no need to be offended that someone disagrees with you. I'm only trying to report that a broad spectrum of professionals work with Macs that maybe you don't see too much.

I am not hurt or offended by your post, just simply pointing out that you are making some pretty big assumptions on who I am and what I know. I find your tone and word usage pretty rude at times, but nothing I haven’t dealt with before.

I could easily say you are the one with an isolated point of view due to you working in one place for 30 years, and at a University as well. But I know your point of view, as I have worked on a university campus, and even way back then Mac had a pretty good following, I can only imagine that the popularity has grown tremendously over the past few years. And this in large is what you base your view off of, and I respect that, I don’t' think its correct view. But I at least afford you your own point of view. I don't try to belittle it to make my view somehow more legitimate.

You keep making this assumption that because I don’t see Macs that somehow I have very little knowledge about the subject when that is my exact argument. I have seen thousands of server rooms, hundreds of computer labs and countless work stations over my years in the IT industry. The most Macs I have ever seen in one place are in a Mac lab in a university.

I just don’t see or hear about them being used that often in the business world. And that is backed up by numbers and market research.

After saying that, I do believe that Apple has a great chance in turning their recent popularity in the MP3 and Smart Phone markets into the PC business. However I am skeptical of it, as I meet just as many people that hate Apple as I do that like them. Apple is very polarizing company, as is Microsoft.

This subject is now a dead horse.

Btw what department do you teach in at LSU? Or work in if you are in the Administration staff?

I just got one. Actually this post is from my iPad while I am lying in bed. This thing is awesome. I love it. I haven't put it down for two days. And I am a Microsoft guy by trade. Really cool. Everyone in my family is using it. Wife reading books and watching news. Daughter watching videos and digital books.
    Big big fan

Apple opens at $260 today and is making me money. It went up $14 yesterday. It is a mistake to underestimate Apple or its products.
