The conference CG is only a playoff game if everyone has one. It all conferences aren't created equal, it don't mean sh*t! I guess if OU wins and they aren't #1, it doesn't say much for lsu!!

i am not sure. why? i really think the conference standings and results should be independent of the national picture. in basketball, you could finish 5th in the sec and win the national championship. in football, i dont see why a one-loss team whose loss happened to be the conf championship should be punished extra. so i guess i am saying i dont think of the conf champ game as a playoff of sorts.
martin, I guess thats where our opinions are different. I think its like a playoff game because your playing for #1 in your conference. I really don't like the basketball analogy because that would be too many teams involved and that never would work for college football in my opinion. I don't think you need wild card games or other games. Just conference champ game winners would more than be enough extra games. I just don't think its fair to all #1 and #2 teams of the past that have lost thier champ games and didn't make it to the big game. What would you tell them? Sourman, I think we got a wheel off track a few posts ago. It wasn't your post I was referring to. Sorry, if you thought that. You have some valid points, but we disagree on a few technicalities. Martin has good point with the BB analogy. I really don't agree with a conference CG anyway. If we had a playoff...maybe. But since we don't I think it makes the playing field uneven at this time. Maybe someday.
agreed, But I don't think you can use the basketball analogy because lets take for instance: Pro football vs Pro basketball the games are totally different, the playoff games are not the same for the NFL and the NBA It would never work in college either..................... Basketball players can play more games and play every nite vs football once a week. College football would never end!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if it had a basketball playoff system
in my basketball analogy the point i am making is that the regular season is all one long test to see if you make the big dance. except in football only 2 teams can make the dance. so in football i think we should look at every game including the conf championships as opportunities to impress the decisionmakers. but no specific game should be ablke to break you.
