1. I'm 58. And, guys like me are the ones doing the hiring and firing.
  2. Well guess what. I'm not 58 and have done plenty of hiring and firing. Unless a tatto was offensive, crude, or vulgar it wouldn't influence my decision making. Even then it would be due to HR regulations and not the person's "character". I've also fired plenty of people who had no tattoos and most of them were middle aged white guys.

Again there are some cultures where tattoing is a very normal thing. Many Samoans, Hawaiians, and Polynesians do it to honor their heritage.

  3. Why would you say Perrillous is not your idea of a scholar-athlete? Because he's a black football player who has had some trouble with the law? I believe it's been said here recently that he actually goes to class everyday and actually does very well.

As for people with tats all over, would you question the look of a combat veteran Marine? A good majority of Marines have tattoos and many have them all over (sleeve type and whatnot). Now, I'm not big on that look, but all of these individuals are fine Americans who have proven their valor and character on the battlefield. Would you question them?
  4. I've been hiring and firing guys your age since I was 21. Oh, and I have three tats.
  5. There are Marines with tats that extend up their neck a bit. Would you not trust them?

I agree they look trashy, but the way somebody looks doesn't necessarily define their character.
  6. I really don't mind tats as long as they can be covered if needed and even then they don't bother me much.

I agree about the neck, face, and hand tats though.

I went to the store the other day and a thuggish looking guy was working the counter. He had two tats on his neck one said 'inky' and the other said 'RIP Clyde'. I wanted to ask if he was mourning the deaths of the ghosts in PacMan, but didn't figure he'd get the reference.
  7. I myself hate tats. With that I have to say that my best friend in the world has quite a few and I would trust him with my life, my money and kids (if I had either). There is really nothing that he wouldn't do for me and me for him so I don't think tats show anything about a persons values or class. But that is just me.
  8. OK, I'm an old guy and pretty conservative. BUT having said that I must add that I have never thought a person's outside appearance was any kind of indicator of their character or worth.

I have lots of friends who are ex military with tats and I have lots of friends with tats that have nothing to do with anything but art. They're all fine people and good friends.

I don't have a tat. BUT I've always thought of having Yosemite Sam on my butt pointing his guns at the hole saying "Come outa there, Ya Varmint!" Sure would be fun to show it off!

    Sorry Red.:eek:ldskule:
  9. 1. Tat's dont make you articulate or not. ( supports your stance )
    2. PHD's dont make you a success. ( althought it helps )

of course being successful depends on what your goals are to begin with.

I really dont think it's an issue about the 21st century, its more a personal preference, some folks like chocolate ice cream other like vanilla.

I personally have no problem with Tatoos. I dont have any but I wouldnt hire or fire a guy based on his tattoo's. Unless it was just bad for business, ie some sort of established company dress code or something.

In the end, people respect other people by what they do, its a results driven society.
