GEt Windows to boot into "Safe Mode", I dont rememeber which key to hit exactly but if Windows doesn't shut down correctly it should give you the option to do it. When in Safe Mode run any virus updates you might need. Also double check to see if you installed ANY new software, that could be another souce. I have gotten the memory dump message before and typically it is some program going haywire for whatever reason.

Sounds like a memory problem to me. But it could be software or hardware. I am a tinkerer so take this for what it is worth.

    To check software.

When you get your computer in safe mode open your start menu and click on "RUN". From there type "msconfig". You will see the system configuration screen. Select start up and disable anything new. I would disable anything that is in C:\Program files but nothing in C:\system at first. Enable things one at a time until you have a blue screen of death. I know that takes time.

You can also switch to the standard vga driver to make sure your vga driver has not gotten messed up. If it has download a updated one. I am not one to upgrade drivers uless there is a problem so don't upgrade unless you need it.

If you have upgraded any device drivers or anded any devices check those.

Like mentioned before check any new software and run a virus check. If you don't have a virus checker you can get a demo of one from download.com. I am useing a demo from panda that I like very much.

If in the past you have added and removed alot of programs you might want to run a registry repair tool. You can download these from some place like download.com. Use the automatic or novice mode. Don't do any manual editing to the registry uless you know what you are doing.

If all these software checks don't work you need to check your hardware then it can get reel random. Bad memory bad or dusty fan/heatsink weak power supply. Video card problems.

    Good luck and geaux Tigers.

Thats what I used to do. Seems like a pretty good deal to me.

If you hit F8 when the computer is booting, just after self test, it should give you the advanced startup option. Conversely, you can run msconfig (go to start, run, type msconfig). Once you get into the configuration utility, you can click on the "advanced " button in the bottom right corner, and put a check mark in the box labeled "enable startup menu". That will make the PC prompt you everytime, but it will have to be unchecked to disable.

Im betting on some problem with the OS or some other program running at startup. In that msconfig utility, under the general tab, select selective startup and uncheck all of the check boxes underneath it. That will disable everything running at startup. If you are still getting the memory dump after that, I might start thinking it was hardware. If you dont, then something in your startup group is causing the crash. You can then go back and enable groups one by one until you find the one causing the dump. Then voila, you have your culprit.

Sounds like a bad memory stick. If you have 2 sticks, remove one and see how it goes. If you get the blue screen again, shutdown, switch mem sticks and try again. This is a cheap and easy way to determine if you have a bad mem stick. I have seen this happen way to often, and it is an easy fix. If you are under warranty, contact your seller for trouble shooting. They will take you through a myriad of steps. If warranty is gone, try one of the guys on this board. They seem to have offered some really good advice.
