If you get desperate, I could give you a long list of places I have been . . . Then you could go everywhere else!

The us has status of forces agreements with most countries but I believe we did not have one with Thailand at that time...technically my unit was not in Thailand. Its been too many years and my memory is cloudy. But getting me out was an adventure. They had a state dept guy get a driver out to the closest road we were at and brought me to a hotel in Bangkok. Then picked me up and brought me to airport. I had minimal civilian clothes with me so they even had some basic items for me at the hotel. I was very grateful and give to the red cross regularly for that reason.

Nice to hear that the Red Cross was able to assist you. They don't receive enough recognition for the assistance they provide to military members.

Before I retired from my civilian job I counted up the number of countries I had visited. It was a lengthy list. From Thule Greenland to Diego Garcia and a whole lot of locations in between. I traveled to every continent except Antartica. I accumulated a lot of frequent flyer miles which provided free air travel for vacations.

I’ve kind of been around the world on ships: San Diego to Singapore, west and Norfolk to Singapore east. Yeah, on land across the US. At least that’s my story and I have that engraved on my Stadium!!!

I'll take flying business class on a commercial airline, sipping a beverage or two versus sailing the ocean on a cramped ship 7 days a week. :D
