I think this picture pretty much sums up the no call (thanks KfanLSU)

Illegal block on the left, holding on the right

I can understand the block being a bit ambiguous when you look at the video, but the hold?... No question

Yeah, it's always good to remind yourself that you won unfairly...

Agreed, Tirk. Iowa made their fair share of mistakes as well. And while I'm aware LSU didn't wanna give up the field goal, it seems as if the only people in the whole country that didn't know Tate was going to throw the deep ball on that play were the Tigers... Maybe it's just me.

But that's not even the big picture, but rather an example of it.... I can only imagine how some of the teams we faced this year musta felt when they lost to us late in the game. I'll say it now, LSU as we all know, has been inconsistant this year. And as much as I've loved and thoroughly enjoyed watching them show the resolve, determination, and character they've showed throughout the season, the games weren't what we all knew these guys were capable of. The phrase "missed it by that much" comes to mind. All the talent was there, it just didn't come together quite like it should have. This game was no different...

We all know the Tigers should have stuffed Iowa's 107th ranked offense, but they didn't. As much as I hated it, we were on the receiving end of the loss this time. Was bound to happen (again) sooner or later.

I see your point. Of course, I'm no coach, but seems to me they still should have at least entertained the thought of Iowa was going to the deep ball, and had someone there. And if they did intend to have someone there, they missed their assignment... which shouldn't have happened....

I need to stray away from this though, because usually I'm not one to try to say shoulda, coulda, woulda... I realize that hind-sight is 20/20 and for me to say what should have taken place is nothing more than an exercise in futility. Maybe it's not stupid, but rather human nature.

I guess I'm just finding ways to express my disappointment with the way the game turned out, just like everyone else is... Just in my own way. And as glad as I am that we ended up 9-3, I can honestly say I've seen better teams end up with worse records. The season coulda been much, much worse. Hell, depending on who you ask, it "shoulda" been....

That's why I love this damn game and team so much.... Is it September yet??

To all those who keep reminding us that LSU didn't play a perfect game and therefore shouldn't have to rely on a bad call to win the game...IOWA DIDN'T PLAY A PERFECT GAME EITHER! :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: Why is it ok for them to win without playing a perfect game on a bad call and us to lose it?

because some people's human nature is not to make excuses even when justified. A good way to live yet a painful way to watch football if a diehard fan, especially when being screwed.

touche'. I'd be in more pain if I was an Auburn fan @ 13-0. that's twice they went undefeated without a chance to prove or see how good they actually are. they'll be forgotten as #2 is never remembered.

they can keep their moral victories and their SEC trophy. hell, its jaded due to their own refs as well.

    oops another excuse.

We lost because someone utterly forgot their coverage......not because of the holding no-call and push in the back.

I guess you decided not to take my advice about the whole deep breath thing. Too, bad. If you can't see what is "abrasive" about your responses then I don't really know what else to say but that it must be very lonely there with just you and your computer.

Look, allow me to rephrase to make it less "abrasive"....

Your side: LSU lost because of a bad call (or lack of a call, rather)...

My side: LSU didn't perform well enough to win that game.

Now... I don't deny that had the refs made those calls, we would have won the game... that much is true. But my argument is that had LSU played up to par then the calls wouldn't have mattered... That's all.

It wasn't my intention to be so over-zealous about it, but I don't like to make excuses... This is the way I've always been and the people in my life (and FYI, there are many) accept that and rely on it at times... and to paraphrase what tirk said above, it's a good way to live life... but it's painful for an LSU fan sometimes, as it is for others to hear what I have to say, apparently.

Anyway, we're on the same team... We need not be bickering about this anymore, in my opinion. I'm willing to agree to disagree if you are... fair enough?

I agree with your statement 1000%. At the risk of being John Kerry again(who I proudly voted for), my point was that the refs missed a call that would have saved the game for us--a game in which you correctly observe and with which I am in complete agreement, we were outcoached and outplayed. You would be surprised to know that the first thing out of my mouth to my kids after the last play was, "Well, Iowa deserved to win that game." My oldest son then pointed out the push to me, we've been watching this board of late and we decided to post our thoughts.
In my zeal I used the words "cost us the game" in reference to the no call. I agree wholeheartedly with you that our poor coaching and execution really cost us the game and we never should have been in the situation for that last play to have mattered.
I am likewise not an "excuse maker"--we lost the game and we have to handle that loss with class and maturity while being proud and supportive of our team. That is how I live and that is what I try to instill in my kids. I was just throwing out my observation to see if anyone else noticed the push, not to whine that we got robbed or anything along those lines.
Anyway I'm starting to feel like Alan Alda in need of some quiche over here. In all sincerity, thank you for your response and your olive branch. I'm sorry about the "lonely" comment--that was tacky and I apologize.
