Capital One Ending I'm not one to focus on one play "costing" a team the game either because of a lack of execution or because of a flag or lack thereof. However, this photo from the last play of the Capital One Bowl suggests that Iowa had a little help on the last play. Hey ref, look like a little holding to you ? NOTE: Oops, didn't see the other thread, my bad.
A better question would be: Why do you blitz with Man coverage on the last play of the game? Drop 6 DBs in zone coverage and there is no way they score on that play. We got outcoached in that game all day.
If memory serves me correctly we did just that in 2002 against Arkansas and still got burned @ the end of the game. Bottom line is you should never lose a game that way even if the receivers are holding !
Ok John Kerry, whatever you say...Here's what you typed... ^^^^ Perhaps you should say what you mean.... Yes, we do have refs to make calls on these things. But it's never been stated that the refs are perfect. We've seen it time and time again throughout the NCAA... Refs make bad calls. Part of the game? Yes... An excuse for a loss in this game? HELL NO. Anyway you look at it, our Tigers didn't execute... Period. If we had played a great and flawless game and the refs made a call that cost us the game, yes... I'd be a little more upset about it. But truth be told, we're lucky we didn't get beat any worse than we did. I love LSU and I always have, but I'll not deny the truth. Again... Blaming the bad call... "end of story". No, I won't step away. I will state my opinion when I feel like it regardless of whether it meets your approval or not...Perhaps had you not been so quick to puff out your chest because I disagreed, you would have seen that my previous post wasn't an explosion. I'm simply tired of seeing people cry about a game that the Tigers, for whatever reason, did not play well enough to win. So before telling me to "chill", take the time to think about the knowlege I'm kickin' to ya... Ask anyone around here and they'll tell you that I don't just "explode" on people for the sake of seeing what I typed.... I state my opinions they way I state them because that's how I feel and if the truth is too abrasive for you then too bad. I call them like I see them. No more, no less....
That may be so, but our players still should have the opportunity to stop the receiver after he catches the ball. If Travis was pushes in the back that should have been a penalty and the down should have been repeated. Can anybody more knowledgable about officiating verify this? Although I agree this did not ultimately cost us the game, Only scoring 25 points is what cost us the game! This was probably not the game to bring Matt Flynn in on, that hurt us. Being conservative on offense hurt us (Thanks Jimbo!) Having said all that, I do believe the players played their hearts out and they deserved to win that game and to have lost it on a supposed "no-call" really sickens me!
It is Ronnie Prude's fault. He played a zone when his man was on a fly. They had trips right and the middle wide out just flew past Prude while he was in "zone mode."
I'm not denying that an infraction of the rules took place at the end of the game. But had we executed and made the right decisions ALL 60 minutes of the game, we wouldn't have even been in that situation.... Look, I didn't intend to ruffle anyone's feathers... If my post did, then sorry but I state things like I see them... But for anyone to concentrate on that bad call and not look at the bigger picture here is crazy. I mean come on... People forgetting their assignments, clock mismanagement, etc... Iowa was clearly the better team on that day and they won. Amen, brother.
Iowa's clock manage was just as reprehensible. 2 timeouts left and got one play off at the end is inexcusable. however, the fact remains Ferentz did that for a reason because LSU was defending field goal yardage, not a td. All coaches woulda called a timeout the play before, allowing the OC to adjust. TD was probably the last thing on the d's mind after muschamp drilled it in their heads to protect the middle near their 30 or so. A td unfathomable. Not an excuse yet it was odd to watch that series of plays unfold. what coach wouldnt call a timeout? that was brutal. if he does, we likely win. more reason we shoulda got ferentz. that undersized d played tough, physical ball that knocked LSU around early who seemed unprepared then adjsted fine later.
also its stupid to say even though they held we shoulda stopped the play. it wasnt a prevent defense situation. you're defending field position as well. you cant afford to give up a fg either. should tate have been able to get off the pass if our d-line is allowed to encroach then slam him before the ball is snapped? i mean cmon, its bad coaching if not.
