it's not that we don't have someone to play the spot it's that rotating all of our great players to keep fresh legs on the field is a big part of our defensive strength.

If I'm not mistaken, he's suspended (or probation or whatever they call it) for the semester. When the semester ends in December, he is eligible to play. Bowl games are after the semester.

It's usually the other way around when players are ineligible for a bowl game b/c they failed the fall semester.

As I recall, his problem was academics and he'd be eligible again in December, assuming he'd corrected the problem, so be able to play in a bowl...But wouldn't that use up a year of eligibility? If he redshirted, maybe the year would be shot anyway, unless able to get a waiver.
