Hey @KyleK , ever grow cabbage? My boy has one planted for a school project and I have no idea what it's supposed to do. I can only assume the leaves will at some point ball up but for now it's just growing.
Yes, we typically plant it in the fall. Cabbage doesn't like hot weather. No, the outer leaves stay like they are...a head forms in the middle. When did he plant it? It typically takes about 70 days to make. He should mulch pretty heavily to help keep the soil as cool as possible at this time of year.
Depending on when in Feb, it should be forming the head. When we plant in the fall, sometimes we will cut the head out and leave the outer leaves and it will send up another head (actually several, we trim to keep just one). It is typically smaller than the first one, but still good to eat.
So far I see nothing but leaves. It's still fairly cool up here even on the warm days. I currently have it getting lots of sun and probably the most heat it can get but with that said I doubt we've seen 80 yet. Maybe I should move it.
Don't move it, just keep it mulched. If you move it, it will stunt it and definitely not produce before it gets hot. Patience.
I could tell you a few things about a hydro rig. I actually still have the pieces but like Mervyns it closed down a long time ago.
All he has to do is ask. I keep my one hitter close for him at a moments notice if he ever wants to finally be free...
