I was proud of chugging a quart when I was 16. It's a rite of passage thing, perhaps.

Ever since, I have tender to savor beer.

When you're that age, you can't afford beer worth savoring...

My favorite famous person to meet was Steve Young when he was still with the Niners. I have a couple of pictures with him. It was surprising how huge his shoulders were (and I like shoulders).

I also shared an elevator with Jessie Sapolo (sp?) and Bryant Young on the way to a Niners game in '96. The doors opened, and we walked a red carpet together. That was so much fun, I wanted to go back upstairs and come down again.

I've only watched a little of Anthony Bourdain with most of it being an episode when he visited south Louisiana. One segment of the show was a full scale boucherrie. After they shaved the pig, he said it was "smoother than a pole dancer's taint".

I've been around Shaq twice but don't think I personally spoke with him. The first time was at Dale Brown's basketball camp and he pulled up in this tiny little car (said it was his girlfriend's car). There were about a dozen campers asking so many questions that I didn't get a chance to really say anything.

The next time was probably only a few months later (or maybe the following year) when he showed up at Red's (Lafayette) with Harold Boudreaux and Maurice Williamson. They played a few semi-competitive games with some of the regulars from Red's. By the time I got to play, my team had a couple of other "kids" (16 yr olds or so) so it turned into more of a "showing off" type game. Shaq started playing silly (he could dribble much better than I would've expected) and my team was trying a bit too hard to impress Shaq so the game got sloppy.

When I was working at Champs Sports in BR, he came in one day with his entourage (during his rookie year at Orlando) and bought them all shoes. I was able to get him to come to the storeroom and sign a few things. He was very cool.

Years later a friend of mine drew him as their celeb in a golf Pro-Am. My friend had designated the group "Team Shocker", with shirts bearing the appropriate logo. Shaq had no idea what it meant and went absolutely nuts when they told him.

Anthony Bourdain is awesome. I saw him bout a year back when he came through town on a speaking tour. Dude dismantled the food channel (his original gig) and dropped names. Called bobby flay a CS'er in fact so I am inclined to believe his deal with CNN will be no different, or at least not as bad as the food channel, at least I hope not.

The piece he did on the boucherrie was phenomenal but I gotta believe the piece he did called "food porn" is my favorite, had Ron Jeremy in that bit which only made it a master piece.

Gotta give Anthony Bourdain his props, without him, sidewalk food would never have the life it does now.
