That is so true. My biggest issue with this is how they could not address the levee breach in under 24 hours. To me, that's inexplicable and unacceptable, especially when the limitations of the levees were known.

I agree. That levee system has always been an issue and a great concern. Don't remember where I heard this (can't keep track of all the news reports), but they say that the Corp of Engineers just completed some repair work on or near that stretch of levee that gave way.

I'm sure there are too many chiefs and not enough indians right now. That's pretty common in these type of situations.

Why is it the Federal governments fault for not funding these levees? They are NO's and LA's levees. It may sound harsh considering the current circumstances, but let NO and LA pay for them, not me. Was there anything stopping NO or LA from funding their own levees (like some sort of federal mandate the the federal gov is in charge of this)?

    i agree...

this isn't on Bush at all...

he has been GREAT in this situation...

he put himself at risk flying extra low just to see the damages 1st hand, something no one else has ever done. He cares a lot about what is going on, and will do all he can to help us

That's an ad hominem attack and has nothing to do with the information reported. It is mainstream news that NO is under martial law, that the mission to plug the levee last night was overruled by the feds, and Nagin was very frustrated by the undermining of his power. Plus a lot of our national guard are deployed in Iraq when they are sorely needed back home.

Well, duhhh . . . it is because there is a mandate for the federal government to be in charge of this, specifically the US Army Corps of engineers. This river system is continental in scope and clearly in the realm of federal government authority. If each city and state could go it their own way, they would all be selfish and put the water on somebody else.

That may be true, but I have a hard time believing anything a web site that says that the Feds want New Orleans to completely flood, and saying the dome was a conentration camp of 65,000.

They were making it sound like it was a decision made out of vengence. I believe that it was sheer stupidity.

Concentration camp: "a camp where persons (as prisoners of war, political prisoners, or refugees) are detained." I would say under the circumstances and the information reported that it is a concentration camp. Today, FEMA calls them "relocation" centers, it's just semantics. If the website said refugees detained in a forced labor camp inside the superdome I would agree.

It is inexplicable that somebody would interfere with the effort to plug the breach and now the city officials are useless and have no power.

Then post a reliable news source link rather than some conspiracy theory website.
