Remedial courses, by definition do not count to degree credit. It was to get one up to Freshman level coursework. It guess I shouldn't be surprised that there may be some exceptions lingering, but in the 1970's about half the Freshman class had to take remedial English and Math. Then again, about half of my 10,000-strong freshman class of '73 never belonged in college, partied 24/7 (drinking age was 18, marijuana was $10/ounce), flunked out in the spring, and went back to Metairie to work in their daddy's business. Restricted admissions was a good thing.
Dang golly this was the most dumbfounded thread I think I've ever read on this board. Cajunpunk, I'm not dissin' you or anything like that, but have you ever tried a UNIVERSITY level course load? Some people dabble around in either junior division, or with a butt-load of 101 classes, and then drop-out claiming that college "was 'too-much.'" A UNIVERSITY degree is NOT meant to be easy. In fact, most employers that mandate a degree do NOT care what concentration you focus on, but rather that you did the work to get a degree, any degree--that in itself proves that you aren't a lazy person. I take 18 hours at Nicholls (300 and 400 level courses, mind you) and I work an additional 25-30 hours a week. Pair that with the fact that I also work out and I'm in a band that tries to practice twice a week. I think I know what it's like to have a lot to juggle on top of a UNIVERSITY course load, and for a BIG TIME college football player, it's not a walk in the park. While there are certainly tougher majors offered, just think about how popular JR is and how LITTLE time he has... would you be able to deal with the constant popularity that comes with being on the LSU football team and still make the honor roll? It doesn't matter if you are learning about the history of bubble gum (I'm thinkin' here...) in college, nothing is handed to you... Well, I'm not sure about athletes... but... naw, I'm not going there...
Just out of curiousity, I have two questions.... One, how old are you? Two, have you ever been to college?
I won't answer the first question, because I don't want to get "dissed" for my age, but the answer to the second is yes. I will transfer from West Valley College to San Jose Sate University. My dream was to go to LSU, but because of my (and my family's) situation, I am unable.
