I know you work for LSU, so perhaps I shouldn't disagree with you, but I think LSU only recently ceased all remedial courses. My freshman year in 03, they offered a remedial math for some students. That was the last year they offered it though I think, & kids now have to take it at BRCC (or wherever). And I'm not sure if it's even a credit for graduating, it's just to help them so that they can get the next math.
Wait one minute, jr. I am a white female with a very good, extremely well-paying job that I got with a high school education. The comments I made about the street corner or giving credit for being in school has no color. I see kids of all colors doing this....YOU are the one that suggested that my intent was black. Now, I have 3 boys, who are going to school on their own merit because my income was always too high to qualify for any freebies. The "system" is used, not only by blacks, but by whites. I live in a college town. I see kids spending daddy's money and staying drunk all day. I see kids that are on scholarships and loans and working extra just to pay for their education. I don't care who they are....being in college and getting an education so that they don't have to bust their ass like i do is OK by me. So, it seems to me that you are the one with the problem....it's called "a chip on my shoulder". I'M DONE
Out of the drug dealer and athlete, which is idolized, worshiped, and adored? Of course, we won't feel the same for the dealer, but I think organizations like the NAACP has created this riff. What is shown by them is that 'white America' doesn't want the black man around, forcing unconstitutional acts such as the affirmitive action. I believe these things denote a negative effect, in opposition to what may be the NAACP's efforts, against succeeding elsewhere, thus, giving little choice. Plus, it's not "cool" to be a businessman, right? Look at the reaction to the NBA's dress code. Rappers and athletes are in a league of their own. What are your thoughts? Does that clear it up a bit?
Nice intentions on the thread salty. It is great to see that JR is continuing to do well in college. Also it is good to know and remember those specific people who were spreading the rumors about his grades. :geauxtige :tigerhead LSU!
As Contained was talking about, what is this "we" stuff. White people are not a part of this problem. We didn't create black culture. For lots of people, going to college is commonplace. Other families don't have that luxury. When you grow up in the ghetto (which I have no idea if JaMarcus did or not), going to college should be looked at as a big accomplishment.
LSU's former student council president had a General Studies major. JaMarcus is a very able young man, the degree is as difficult as any other. Looking at the degree audit, it requires 45 hours of course above the 3000 level, while others like mine, Poli Sci, only require 9 hours above the 3000 level. It may vary in difficulty depending on the concentration, but that is still quite a workload.
I agree. I think I am being misunderstood. Who's to say he did come from the ghetto? If so, I can understand an excitement for attending college. WE may not have created anything, but WE have elected leaders that have let us down, so in essence, this has been created by someone. Maybe I should say LIBERAL America has created it... ehem... With everything aside, I congradulate JR for his acedemic success. I don't think I could do it.
Mmmmkkkk... a "low blow?" I was homeschooled because a quota was suppossed to be met at Ryan elementary where the black-white ratio (75% black and 25% white) had to be met. They were famous at the time for "salt and pepper" fights. They wouldn't let me attend the local school my brother was going to. My parents kept me home. That's why.
Wasn't asking for an explanation. Just asking to hold off on the black/white issue a bit. It's not always the case and some people try to make it that way. I raised my kids to see no color but it's hard in today's world. Sorry bout the low-blow........but I'll keep my eye on you...lol Truce?
