I am one in the minority here (A big Minority) but I agree you should win your own conference in order to make the 4 team playoff.
Sorry just how I feel. yes it means we have a harder road that other conferences but you know what so be it...

Win your conference, make the playoff. simple..
Dont give me the NFL story either, if it was a 16 team playoff then I would agree.

David vs. Goliath is what I want to see. You make a play off system where you can include teams like Boise State, TCU or South Florida you can make the game that much more competitive. I don't care what anyone says about teams playing cracker jacks. You give promise to a group of guys who have busted tail in the weight room on the practice field during two days and in the class room you can have an undisputed no matter what their strength of schedule is. Distribute opportunities toward programs across the country the more money programs will spend into their football complexes giving them more chances to enhance their facilities and more money to recruit...

If only it were that simple.

take the best two teams from each conference. The two teams who play in the conference championship game would get into the playoffs. That way if LSU goes undefeated and loses their conf. champ. game it helps them get another chance. I don't believe that a conf. champ. game should determine whether or not you should make it to the title game or not. You play 10 regular season games a year drowning out OCC games like a La tech or a Tulane. Your regular season fomat should only be used to determine the seeding in the playoffs.

Keep the bowl games and make the BCS a play off system. Your bowl games much like the NIT in basketball and your playoffs being like the tournament.

It seems a 4 team play off is the best way to go. Let's face it usually there is an obvious drop off after the first 4 teams and any more add nothing. I would like the major bowls Rose, Sugar, Orange & Cotten to alternate as both semi final & final sites.
Whether a conference plays a championship game is up to each conference. It may be a mixed blessing but I think it has helped the SEC to the level it is now.
I think the conference champions should be favored for the playoffs but allowance should be made for exceptional teams that don't win. Last year Alabama was better than any other conf champion (except LSU) and would have deserved a spot in a playoff.
The main item that will determine success or failure it how the teams are ranked and selected. Will it be a backroom deal, will it use the current BCS formula, or what?

Keep the ranking sysem and allow the top 4 ranked teams regardless of conference affiliation for the playoff.

Better get rid of the polls with that scenario. No one will have the stomach of watching a dominate #2 team, all season, watching a #14, 9 and 3, ACC team take their place. Back to the beauty contest.

If we're just going to pick the 4 best teams, then the BCS formula is sufficient to pick those four. It's the BCS picking the top 2 that's led to all these problems. A selection committee like Danielson wants is asking for trouble and accusations of backdoor deals. Hell, the baseball committee can't even decide the most important seeding criteria from year to year. The BCS formula, as flawed as it is, at least contains some element of objectivity.

A four-team playoff won't be perfect, but the goal right now shouldn't be a perfect format. The top priority should be relegating the BCS to the ash-heap of history. Changes and tweaks can be made step by step in the future.

No big deal in the grand scheme of things but you are wrong on this one. The Big12 is already in favor of the top four.

The only "sticking point" out there right now is whether it comes down to a selection committee, or it remains as it is and its based on the BCS rankings.
