having watching Lane pitched a lot this year on friday nights i have often wondered why he wasnt replaced in the rotation.
I think the best thing to do would have been to change the rotation where Lane is the Sunday starter against miss. st. last weekend. Then in the post season you can make sure that your two best pitchers pitch each a game atleast. Now by starting Lane today. If we lose tomorrow then one of the better pitchers all year will not see the mound at all. But because of keeping the rotation the same during the Miss. St. series he had no choice but to start Lane or Mier. Lane is pitching better though. He has been haunted by some crucial errors that made innings look alot worse. But once again, LSU doesn't do the little things to win a championship. I wish them the best but it doesn't look good. I wonder what lineup will be out there tomorrow? hmmmmmmmmmmmmm I guess he's still getting his lineup ready for the post season. ummmm WAKEUP its here.
Wasn't really directed towards you, though. Some people just crucify Smoke simply because he's not Skip.
That's the problem. You and your "like minded" colleagues can't differentiate between honest criticism and mindless bashing. It's all lumped into one nebulous ball and it pisses the majority of the posters on this board who don't share that ridiculous mindset. You may attack me now.
I have a question about this comment.......with what he is given right now? Like what has Smoke been given but every bit of proof needed as not to start Lane in the first game? Like the other dudes said, we all love Lane but now we have setup that one of our two hottest pitchers the WHOLE SEC SEASON, may not get to pitch. Makes little if no sense. Seems like a "I'll show you guys" move...........
i think its more of a reflection in smoke's quote that they weren't going to put as much emphasis on this tournament as compared to the games which follow which I don't think is very smart. That message was obviously conveyed to the players.
who else would you have started??...you needa put your trust in the LSU legend, lane mestepey...as stated earlier, no one thought he wouldn't have made it outta the 1st...he pitched pretty good last friday against this same team:tigbas:
Neither Dirks nor Smith would've been ready to go today. And why risk over-pitching a guy in the SEC tournament anyway. And lets say that one of those two guys pitched today and we won. Lane would've had to go at some point in the tournament anyway. Lane pitched against Moo U last week and we won. Smoke had more than enough reason to start Lane today. I haven't defended Smoke this whole season, but people are just searching for reasons to rip Smoke. Move on, you haven't found a good one here.
You move on. What was the result today? I can't remember? And Lane didn't pitch a shut-out last weekend. You act like he overpowered people dude but he didn't. Every comment about the rotation is not a dump on Smoke....your trigger is a bit too tightly wound. And to get to Omaha, this insignificant tourney means everything. It wouldn't be overpitching Dirks to have pitched him today. If you want to see over-pitching........look at what Skip and Smoke did to Lane a couple years ago. That was over-pitching cause he was absolutely all they had. If you want to get to Omaha with the least amount of friction as possible, this tourney means everything.
