Dirty stuff like this goes on all the time in football. Our running back missed a game with a "groin injury" after a guy grabbed his nuts until he released the football that he fumbled and recovered 2 seconds before the big pile up....
"His intent was to take the player to the ground, not to inflict injury." - Coach Groh. Wow, if you look at the play, it sure looks obvious to me that the play was over for about 5 seconds, butler looked at kiwi, and focused in on his knee out of pure frustration that kiwi blocked him up. what a dirty player. hopefully karma plays a role here with this guy.
*update* BC has a beef -- Plans to send ACC video of cheap shot By Steve Conroy Monday, October 10, 2005 - Updated: 09:23 AM EST Tom O'Brien's response to the cheap shot Virginia tackle Brad Butler put on senior defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka during Boston College's 28-17 win Saturday has been decidedly more muted than his emotional players' reaction to it. But O'Brien did say yesterday that he planned to send a tape of the incident to ACC officials for review. ``I just think it's a situation they need to look into and decide if that's the way we're going to play football in the conference,'' said O'Brien in his weekly conference call with reporters. In the third quarter of Saturday's game at The Heights, Butler threw a blind-side chop block on Kiwanuka behind the play. The move appeared to be a clear attempt to injure the preseason All-American, who had left the game earlier with an injured ankle but returned after getting a new tape job. BC defensive tackle Al Washington earned an ejection for immediately charging and spearing Butler. Later in the game, Kiwanuka, who continued to play after Butler's cheap shop, got tossed for hitting Butler in the face. Because both Washington and Kiwanuka were kicked out for personal fouls instead of for fighting, they will not be subject to any further sanctions or suspensions, according to O'Brien. But that doesn't mean O'Brien was any happier about his players' actions yesterday than on game day. ``We lost our poise a little bit, and it almost cost us the football game,'' O'Brien said. O'Brien reported that Kiwanuka was sore from the Butler hit. The coach hopes his talented end would be able to practice this week and play Saturday against Wake Forest. O'Brien was pleased with the way his defense rallied after both the Washington and Kiwanuka ejections, and the departure of starting cornerback Jazzmen Williams, who left the game in the first half with a quad injury. The coach singled out the play of redshirt freshman tackle Ron Brace and junior end Jake Ottolini, both of whom stepped up to the challenge. ``I give a lot credit to the defense for sticking together. We didn't expect to be in that situation,'' O'Brien said. ``Any time you win you've got to be happy, but especially when a lot of players get to contribute.'' http://sports.bostonherald.com/college/view.bg?articleid=106343 and a fanblog about it.... http://www.fanblogs.com/boston_college/005873.php
