Wow! I didn’t see this coming from you. Your 1st sentence above with the ASSumptions sets the minimum What’s missing is improvement by the coaching staff. Better red zone play calling, no wasted timeouts because they cannot get a play down from the booth in time, playing to win (not playing to not loose), playing those producing on the field not because of yrs on the team.
The team played hard last night. We lost because of poor coaching.

Hell no! He made some horrible coaching decisions yesterday vs. Alabama. And the mistakes were made because of his his arrogance thinking that he is smarter than everyone else.

Oh it’s a crap storm on toast . I’m not taking bullets for Baby Huey but would you not agree
All of the egregious high school fuck ups of the staff would be greatly reduced if we had an offensive line that could run block? I think Peetz has a lower opinion of the o line than we do.
I know the days of a stat line reading Joey College 24 carries 157 yards is long gone even at LSU but a sufficient run game that can at least eat some clock would cure a lot of ills. ( Amazing how quickly the goal of 9-3 that used to piss us off now looks even better than sniffing coke off a stripper’s ass)
Baby Huey will know by December clearly upgrade the o line or he’s fired by 4th game ‘22. Even he’s smart enough to understand that ultimatum.
Hell he pulled Burrow out his ass when all seemed lost . He can find some space eaters.

O gets credit for Burrow. Had nothing to do with him.

Bill Busch was on staff with Joe Burrow at Ohio State.. when O was looking for a qb, Busch had to convince him of Joe. He told O, Coach if you get this Burrow kid I promise you he'll bring you a championship. Now Urban didn't see it, but Busch did. O took a flyer on him, and Busch having that prior relationship with Burrow and his family from Ohio edges out Fickell and Cincinnati for one main reason: Joe felt he had a better chance to win the title at an LSU than a Cincinnati.

    He was right.

That's how that played out. If Fickell had been at LSU and Busch and O at Cincinnati, Joe picks LSU and Fickell every time without even needing to be recruited.

Fickell wanted Burrow which speaks to his evaluation doesn't it?

Edit: I should have mentioned Fickell also knew Burrow and his family from Ohio State. He chose LSU for the chance to win it all when he had contacts at both places. He was much closer to Fickell and the staff in Cincinnati. They were the favorites throughout his recruitment over us for the reason. Joe kept everyone in the dark. Even his brothers. He said he just knew he needed to win a title and he'd do it at LSU whereas even if he did everything perfect at Cincinnati the system would be against him.

All this suggests Fickell should be the guy we're looking for next.

My biggest concern with Fickell outside of the same concern I have with any hire (can they win here) is that if he’s successful and Ohio State comes calling, does he bail on us for his alma mater?

That's a possibility with any hire. I don't make a coaching hire fearing them going home. I want to hire a guy everyone wants to steal. That's the goal.

Look, Fickell is gonna be a tough pull. His wife and he are big on family and is all there in Ohio and that's hugely important to them. Marcus Freeman said he got on the plane ready to tell us yes to be DC but his wife overruled him. They would still be near driving distance of family at ND. That's the culture I want down here.

I sell them the way Bo sold Les Miles on LSU.. "well, what if LSU is your Michigan, Les?"

You're right there's always risk. I just don't think once Fickell makes a move somewhere he will want to settle the family there and not move anytime soon. Even maybe back home. Urban left Florida but he got them 2 natty.. if the next guy brings us even 1 title that's 4 coaches in a row.. you just make the job look even more amazing.

Then let’s go steal a big name, like Lincoln Riley.
