i would be really suprised if we had much difficulty transitioning to whatever fuel. i cant really imagine that the market wouldnt handle it the transition very easily, if allowed to do so by the government.
id think the transition could almost happen overnight if the market dictated it. the speed of such transitions today (technology wise) is almost so instantaneous its scary.
I understand. The ACLU can't prevent anything, but they will have privacy concerns and there will be abuse concerns, too. As for privacy, we really don't have any already. As pointed out above, modern banking, telephone, and internet techologies have completely compromised our privacy anyway. We have no secrets that the government can't get right now. As for abuse, for a National ID to work, it should only be used to identify. Any use beyond that (tracking ones movements, etc.) must be strictly for approved and legal purposes to fight terrorism and crime. Any abuse by law enforment or intelligence officials to conduct their own unauthorized, perhaps self-serving investigations must be dealt with harshly. Major jail time. This would serve to inhibit abuse of the system.
i completely agree, and i dont even think we would ever need to make a quick transition. it isnt like one day we will wake up and have no oil. we will not be caught off guard scrambling for something because oil costs 30 bucks a gallon. we are getting better at recovering oil from existing wells, and are continiung to find more oil. a long time from now, when oil starts to run out, investors and corporations will redirect the billions of dollars they currently use for finding and digging up oil and use it for alternatives. it will be like moving from the vhs to dvd. it wasnt really a hassle. you wanted something better anyways, and had many years to make the switch. you could be an early adopter, or wait a while until the new thing is cheap. and so eventually it will be cheaper to use hydrogen or cold fusion or whatever other thing we have never heard of, and we divert our money to something besides oil. people will invest in new energy sources and have it ready for us, and eventually we will switch when it is convenient, just like happened with coal. and anyways, in 50 years, you might have as much use for gasoline powered products as you currently have for kerosene lamps. private corporations have our best interests in mind in the sense that they really want terribly badly to sell us a product that we want to buy. so if we want alternatives, investors and corporations will stumble over each other trying to give us exactly what we want. i am sure their are plenty of companies working right this second on a way to make zillions of dollars on some new energy source. and when they come up with something workable, they will be no shortage of investors killing each other to get in on the ground floor. the free market will provide for us such that there will never be any problem. the only think that can screw that up is the government. the worst possibel thing we can do is believe the government has our best interests in mind and allow them to ever do anything.
Pakistani schools of terror??? http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,162734,00.html http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,162725,00.html Mohammed Azam, who is in charge of the 60-acre complex, denied that Tanweer had ever been there. The complex includes a mosque, religious school, housing and farmland. "This is a pack of lies," he said. "They want to malign Islam. They want to target the religion of Islam and Muslims." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Well, If this is the case we would've wiped you out a long time ago. Nope, the terrorists are the ones maligning Islam, not us and you are a accomplice if you know any and don't turn them in!
