I'm with you Parso, Odd # years are our best chance to make a run with UF, Auburn & another eastern foe all at home. Here's a list of names we lose off this years squad. Niswanger, Whitworth, Livings, McGill, Addai, Carey, Green, Brazell, K. Steltz, Oliver, Wroten, KW, Hollis, Vaughn, Kuale, Prude, Stevenson and possibly Landry. That's a lot of experience to replace with roadtrips to UF, Auburn, UT & Arkansas. We'll see lots of new faces next year, hopefully they'll be up to the challenge.
There is absolutely no doubt in my mind tha Vincent will be the #2 RB next season. No matter how you may feel about him, he will come in as a quality SEC back with lots of game experience. Unless he completely blows (and I mean way worse than he is doing now...which I don't think is very bad) for the rest of this season or gets badly injured, there is no way one of the young backs supplant him on the depth chart.
Vincent has the inside track but RB is probably the #1 position that a young guy can step in a make a contribution early. LSU will have several young and very talented backs next season so Vincent better get it in gear if he wants to be #1 or #2. How long have you been following football? If there is any place on a football team where experience means the least it is at RB. If Vincent doesn't play better than he has this year he could fall far down the depth chart. I think he has big time potential and I hope he finds the form he showed during his freshman season.
I think its obvious that Alley will get the majority of the carries next season (pending successfull rehab), but I look for JV to get roughly half as many carries as AB--maybe a little over half. Next year, I think AB gets 14-18 carries per game (which, for him, is usually good for anywhere between 85-125 yards), JV will get 5-10 carries (and probably average somewhere near the 40-yard mark per game, and on games that he gets more than 10, you're looking at 50-60 yards on occassion). I think RJ Jackson and/or A-Robinson each to get a couple of carries in the "lesser games" and a little few in "lesser SEC games" but not a whole lot in big conference games. Murphy and Scott redshirt. So, I think a healthy (and realistic) distrobution of the carries ends up being: AB -- 18 JV -- 8 RJ -- 2 AR -- 2 ....giving us 30 attempts. Leave room for some fullback dives (Hester) per game and some WR-end-arounds and a few QB scrambles, and you're looking at around 36-40 carries per game--which is about what we average now.
Forgive me if someone has already pointed this out (or if I'm totally off-base) but isn't part of JV's problem this year (especially with fumbles) that he's having to back Addai as a fill-in powerback rather than operating as more of a quick-darting scat-back like he was in 2003, leaning more on his natural talents? I'd think the run distribution would be more of a function of the down and distance, and play style. Need to convert a third, go for it on 4th and short, or exploit a D-line's weakness? Alley's the guy. Running an off tackle, reverse, end around, or full-back option on 1st or 2nd and long to get into the secondary and break something open? Give the ball to JV.
The difference is Broussard can do both, he can turn the corner or run between the tackles. You can't bring a guy in off the side line everytime you want to run outside a big time RB needs to be able to do both. Keven Faulk wasn't exactly a bruiser but he could do both. IMO JV needs to quit dancing in the back field and just run the ball.
anyone thinking the same phrase as myself Broussard for Heisman...ya'll think it could happen and what are the chances??
Chances are probably slim for Broussard to WIN a Heisman. If he has a great year, he could get some Heisman talk.
Good analysis. Don't forget about Trindon Holliday, although he greyshirted this year so he'd still be eligible for a redshirt I believe. He's supposed to be a player in the mold of Skyler Green... Any particular reason you believe RJ Jackson & Robinson will be above the recruits we're bringing in this class? All of these guys are very talented - I think it will be a question of who's ready to step up to the plate & might not matter who's a true or a redshirt freshman. My guess, based off of practically nothing, is that one of the young guys (RJ Jackson is my guess) will pass Vincent on the depth chart to receive a good amount of carries right behind Broussard.
