Plus the attention is never bad. Last spring there was still some grumbling around the SEC about Les still having something to prove. Couldn't coach his way out of a wet paper sack. Now he's being talked up as a candidate for the Michigan job on every forum and in every newspaper.

The SEC message boards are full of posts saying "Your coach is leaving, your coach is leaving". BFD. We heard that for all five years that Nick was here and I ask them now what I asked them then, "Why isn't anybody interested in hiring your coach?" Top coaches will be linked with top openings, valid or not . It's unusual for the coaching shell game to start this early in the season, but we are used to it.

And if Les leaves to coach at his Alma Mater, who can blame him, it's a rare opportunity for a coach. But LSU will have had two straight coaches who won big and left the team loaded with talent in a fertile recruiting area. LSU will get 80 applications again, will get serious inquiries from top coaches, and will just go out and get the best coach available again. But I think Les sticks a while. His program is hitting on all cylinders and if he brings home trophies this season, he has contract incentives that could boost his salary immensely.

Darth Visor and The Nicktator both left winning programs for greener pastures and it was a mistake. Les may be wiser than that. Fear The Cap.

Awesome post again, Red!!

I have a question for all the Les Miles doubters on the rival forums and I posed this to Jimmy Ott today, if Miles is an average coach, why is a big time program like Michegan interested? You can't have it both ways, saying he's just cruising on Nick (I'll always be a Tiger) Saban's talent, and then saying we're going to lose him to Mich.

Maybe Petrino will flame out at the dirty birds in one year and be out coach.

But, its not a given the Les would leave. saban made a mistake, Spurrier made a mistake, did Petrino make a mistake (Maybe, maybe not).

Is Michigan an upgrade vs. LSU? That's not clear to me at all. The skill players seem to be in the south. The SEC is a great conference and winning here will bring recognition.

What family draw does he have back there?

Me, I'd stay in BR. He's tamed most of the fan base. He'd be starting over in Ann Arbor (with some old ties).

Coach Miles is a football letterman from Michigan -- it's his Alma Mater.

Not only that, but, he was an Assistant Coach at Michigan for years (at least 8 years).

You don't think that he'd listen if they called?

He makes less than Houston Nutt right now. He makes $275,000 less than we paid Saban back in 2003.

You don't think that he'd listen if Michigan put $2.5 mil/per year on the table?

Miles won't be going anywhere...If he has a mediocre to good year,that won't be enough to get Michigan to talk to him.If he has an outstanding year,all the incentives kick in on his currrent LSU contract.
