Ok einstein, so just when does recruiting matter in baseball? Most sign in the draft, and they don't even make it here. It's more in the development of the players and team strategy that leads to success. Has anyone been drafted lately, at all? that's a pure indicator of where your program is. Just a matter of time, LSU will be a has-been in baseball (IMO, we already are), we'll be talking like Bama does about football, living in the past. You can throw money at every sport, but half-ass coaching won't fill those bleachers up. And building new stadiums wont' matter either. You'll never see a national champ. from any of the 3 major sports for quite some time. But I'll still watch and be content with western division championships.
No, recruiting doesnt matter...if everyone on this forum went out and progressed like our current players we would still be a top 25 team...:dis: Coaching does matter in baseball, just not as much as other sports. ie) need talent!
i'm not saying it doesnt matter at all, but it's not like football, obviously. You need to recruit somewhat, but to say a new stadium will bring in the recruits for baseball is just wrong. the condition of Alex Box has never mattered before, why all of a sudden?
I've been all around the SEC and went to LA to see us play Long Beach St. a few years back. Every place I go I always think to myself that there is no reason these schools have better ballpark's than ours. They all do.....classy, 21st century parks and our's is a joke. I like Alex Box but man, we need a new state of the art stadium. I wish it could be in the same place it is now but they can't.....there isn't enough room. So, sorry I dsiagree.....we need a new 1st class stadium.
It hasn't really ever mattered before. You are correct. But when Bama, Auburn, Florida and every other school has moved up the ladder in competitiveness and they build new stadiums, there is no reason why we shouldn't. For one, it isn't the most fan-friendly place to watch a game. And not too long ago, the place looked like a high school facility. Now it's been fixed up and that's great. But that's like saying because we won in football in 1979 with the stadium we had doesn't mean we need to advance our facilities. Go see a baseball game at Bama and see if you think we are being short-changed with our stadium. Go see a game at Auburn and see if you think our facility shouldn't be rebuilt. It's not a dump by any means but it isn't a place where a school that won 5 National Championships not too long ago should be playing. Skip won too many games and the boys won too many championships not to build a 1st class place to play ball.
Especially one that does not hold any more spectators than the old one. I have no problems with building a new, state-of-the -art stadium such as Zephar Stadium, but if we are going to do that we should at least increase the number of seats.
I'm not disagreeing that the stadium isn't all that great, but all these schools above have these same stadiums when we beat the hell out of them. it's the coaching that makes the difference, this excuse of needing a new one to compete (not economically)is hogwash. We're using the stadium as the reason for losing, instead of Smoke, which was Skip's hire. Tradition and winning is what counts, you can have a pig**** stadium, and they'll come to it. We're not even selling out anymore, so you can't use the capacity excuse. I'm just saying it won't pan out in the long run, baseball wise. I'm fine with expanding Tiger Stadium to 105,000. it's justifiable
Damn man, you should have stopped while you were ahead... I was kinda/sorta agreeing with SOME of the stuff you said for awhile... The bugs bunny thing was funny too... but, hell a 75+ year old stadium is OLD, tradition or not... I mean, you have to keep up with the "Joneses" of the SEC and nation.
