Heres somebody i haven't heard mentioned. Bill Cowher is rumored to be leaving the steelers this week (there is a press conference scheduled for mon.) He would be a good pick if they can get him.

that's what I'm talkin about!! He claimed when he left that LSU was great and "I'm still a Tiger" if that were true, he would not come back in the same league, same division. It's not like he's going to be financially broken if he waits for a different college job (Penn State, Michigan, etc.) later. What he should have said was, I came to do job and now i'm gone, LSU was just a job, nothing more. If he goes to bama I hope we smash him and he fails miserably. Remember, for him to be successfull at bama, LSU has to not be as successfull, only one team can be division champs.

I think Bill Cowher turned down NC State, his alma mater, recently. Bill, if he leaves the Steelers, will likely take a year or two off to get his head screwed on straight again.

I think Nick likes it in the south, he does still have his lakeside vacation home in Georgia where he and his family likes to relax. It's closer to Tuscaloosa than Miami.

Spurrier went from Florida to the pros then to So. Carolina which is about the same as what Nick would do if he decides to. Notice I am cautious to say he will. Tubberville went from Old Miss to Auburn. It's not a unique event.

Perhaps LSU will continue to win against Alabama for another season or so. But with our NCAA sanctions ended we can go after a real coach for a change and it is aparent we are serious about bringing in someone we think will be a winner. We have upgraded all our facilities, paying assistants is no problem and we seem to be willing to make the right coach the highest paid coach in college football. If we do pay him that exorbant sum and he doesn't produce any championships too bad for us, we tried.

What we do expect is to come out of this better than we went in. If Nick, or any other coach, can turn around the lack of dicipline and losing to teams we should beat I am fine with it. Good luck to the Tigers against Notre Dang.

It would depend on how I felt about the coach. I didn't think Franchione would bolt for aTm but after I added up the positives against the negatives I think we came out ahead. I actually got an email from an aTm booster in October of 2002 saying Franchione would be the aTm coach in 2003. I didn't believe it but it happened. I don't dislike Franchione because he left Alabama for aTm but for the way he left Alabama and moral issues. Did Nick ever tell you he would never come back to college football? Did he ever say he would only come back to certain programs? I thought this board was very classy in the way you handled Nick leaving for the NFL but now he may come back to a rival he is some kind of lesser human being.

You have to add up the positives and negatives of losing Saban and gaining Miles then move on.

I agree with most of what your post said. I think most tiger fans felt that Nick was pursuing his NFL dream job. Coming back in the same division does sting, i'm not going to lie. Spurrier came back in the same division after pursuing the NFL but he wanted to interview back at Florida, they kind of gave him the cold shoulder. But I am an SEC fan, also, so even if Saban goes to bama, outside the conference, i'll pull for the tide, you can bet!!

Saban is a very good coach. He also the only coach I know that doesn't have the most impressive record out there that would be paid 40,000,000. His agent knows how to play the game.

Bob Stoops is one of the few head coaches that has shown he is worth his money, along with Mack Brown & Pete Carrol. Stoops did a great job with the Sooners this year. Paying 40,000,000 shows just how desperate the Bama Nation is for a coach. Anyone out there would have a difficult time turning that down.

You know, if it didn't work out Bama would be paying more for coaches not to coach their team than anyone in the Nation. Now that I thinkd about it Bama may already be doing that.:) :geauxtige

Had we not been on probation in 2002 and not allowed to compete for the SEC title Franchione would have had us in the SEC championship game. We had the best record in the division in 2002. Arkansas was the second place finisher in the SEC West and backed into the game.

Compair the two year records and Franchione was 17-8 at Bama.
Saban was 18-7 in his first two years at LSU.
I just don't see that big of a difference when you make a fair comparison.
