i'm not sure I've read anything more naive than this in quite awhile. I never thought anyone owed me anything nor did 99% of any of the men I served with. Most were proud to quietly go about doing what they volunteered for and those that had visions of Rambo quickly learned the harsh reality once they put on that uniform.

Most all simply serve with honor and are proud to serve our country regardless what you may believe.

and those that lost their lives are heroes whether you care to believe it or not.

I didn't know you had served, Tirk.

If you can imagine everything you don't want in a roommate, it was this guy I had to live with for a semester. He cooked everynight & refused to do any of his dishes until he needed them - we were supposed to clean up after him & sing his praises every day regardless of what he did because he fought for our country.

Any of my friends that have enlisted are all great guys & most older men I know that have served are good people as well.

I didn't mean to say that all of the people in the armed services are "lowly fruit" or anything to that effect. This one roommate I had just made me realize that, although I'm grateful to every person that serves that doesn't automatically make them a good person and that some people who join do it because they want to be macho.

Total bull****, you are a liar. This does not happen, anyone of us that have served in the military can attest to that. For the last fifteen years, you could not enlist with something like this on your record without an act of congress. Shut your pie hole, scum. No piece of crap judge decides who can join, the military branch decides who can and cannot enlist. Crap like this has not gone on since the early 80's.

By the way, I recruited for the Marines. I know a little about the subject of joining the military. You couldn't buy a clue. And as far as the type of volunteers that join up in a time of conflict, how about Pat Tillman. Yea, he was a real loser huh? There are thousands like him everyday that decide they owe a debt to our country and join up. They might not all be rich or famous, but they sure as hell are not losers.

Umm, whatever salty. I assure you that is 100% correct. One was arrested with possession of ecstasy, the other with intent to distribute, both felonies. I'm not sure what the possession sentence/fines were, but my friend Corey was facing 7-10 years for intent to distribute.

He served 4 years in the army and now he's back home in Louisiana like nothing ever happened.

Google "Avoid Jail and join armed forces" before you start denying facts and calling people liars, Salty.

    1) After announcing that the Probation Department had recommended 240 days in jail, and praising the probation officer assigned to the case, Moody gave Barr the option of enlistment instead.

    2) The Salinas marijuana peddler who killed a would-be robber in March was told Tuesday that he can avoid a jail term by enlisting in the military--an option that caught the prosecutor and defense lawyer off guard. Brian Barr, 24, was scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday morning for felony possession of marijuana for sale, a charge he admitted last month.

My good friend (the intent to distribute guy) is not right in the head, so I'm sure he kept both is arrest clipping and I know he's still got some military memorabilia. I'll see what I can do next time in Louisiana since i'm sure you're too stubborn to see the truth slapping you in the face.

And don't even get me started on Tillman. He's a superman among men and what happens. Instead of telling the general public what really happened to cause his death, they fabricated a story to capitalize on the good PR his martyr brought.

I'm quite sure you are correct, Salty. But it sure did go on in the 70's. My neighbor, who had no previous record, got busted with 4 pounds of pot. The District Attorney offered to not press charges if Mitchell enlisted for a full four-year hitch. And that's what happened.

I never liked Bill Maher, and do not watch his show. But if HBO wants to put him on, and some people like it, then hooray for them. u Dont like it, dont watch it.

I know people that did somethiong similar, but they joined the Army (rather than Marines) and their charges were non-felony (meaning they were busted with pot, since it's the only non-felony drug here).
