    On the contrary:

    1939
Sept 3 . Submarine U-30 torpedoes British passenger liner Athenia without warning in the belief that she is an armed merchant cruiser; 28 American citizens are among the dead.

Sep 10. U.S. freighter Wacosta, bound from Scotland to New York is stopped by German submarine for three hours.

    1941
May 21. Unarmed U.S. freighter Robin Moor, en route to South Africa and Mozambique, is stopped and sunk by German submarine U-69 (torpedo and gunfire) about 700 miles off the west coast of Africa. First American merchantman sunk by a U-boat in World War II. Crew given food and directions by submarine.

Sep 7 . SS Steel Seafarer bombed and sunk in Red Sea.

Oct 17. Kearney (DD-432) escorting a convoy was attacked by U-boat off the coast of Iceland with 11 killed.

Oct 19. Unarmed U.S. freighter Lehigh is torpedoed and sunk by German submarine U-126 off Freetown, Sierra Leone

Oct 28. Oiler Salinas (AO-19), in convoy ON 28, is torpedoed by German submarine U-106 about 700 miles east of Newfoundland.

Oct 31. Reuben James (DD-245), an older destroyer on convoy duty west of Iceland, was sunk by U-boat with loss of 115 men.

Oct 31. DuPont (DD-152) is attacked by U-boat, but missed.

Dec 2 . German submarine U-43 torpedoes and sinks unarmed U.S. tanker Astral and her 37 man crew.

Dec 3 . Unarmed U.S. freighter Sagadahoc is torpedoed and sunk by German submarine U-124 in South Atlantic.

German espionage rings in the US were destroyed in a sweep on June 28, 1941, well before Pearl Harbor and formal US entry into the war. A naturalized U.S. citizen, was threatened with blackmail to become a radio operator for the Abwar. He told the FBI and became a double agent sending large quantities of approved information. He was considered so valuable in Germany that he was put in contact with all German agents in the U.S. Thirty people were rounded up.

Just for the record. Germany declared war on the US on December 11, 1941. Congress only declared war on Germany in response to this.

OK. I'm only going to explain this one more time. You may not be old enough to remember the 9/11/01 attacks (OK that was low :yelwink2: ), but there was a distinct feeling of vulnerability in the air. Suddenly, every middle eastern country was being perceived as an immediate threat to our safety. Bush (or "W" since you may not know his real name) declared war on terrorism including "those who harbor them". Saddam had a long history of terrorism and of being sympathetic to anti US interests and was, thus, an active threat to our well being, given the climate immediately following the WTC collapse. At the same time, Saddam was thumbing his nose at UN resolutions following the Kuwaiti invasion and this flaunting of internationial sanctions was suddenly no longer a matter to be tolerated. Bush, with the safety of US citizens as his sole motivation, decided that it was time to sh!t or get off the pot with this despot. He told Saddam, get straight or we will kill you and your'n. Saddam laughed and, to his everlasting regret, now realizes that, following the direct attack on US shores, his antics were no longer a laughing matter. The threat of WMDs was part of the equation, but far from the sole reason he needed to be taken down. You cannot, years after the fact, question the President's decision to take Saddam out without remembering what the climate was at the time. Thank God that Bush was of the mind that we just ain't takin' no crap from nobody. We'll kill em and sort it out later.

Right. And we forced him out. Did you intentionally disregard the clause 'the couple of years prior to our invasion'? The purpose of said phrase was to more accurately compare the conditions vs that of WWII.

So then, since you disagree with some of the terminology, are you claiming that the instances outlined are false? You're welcome to try and disprove them. Further, are you denying our current plight in Iraq as 'nation-building'? Even some of the most ardent supporters I've faced will admit to that.

They were? Even our best pals, Saudi Arabia and Israel. I don't think so.

Do what the DOD/CIA/US military could not and prove that point. No subjectivity, make a factual claim.

What did Hussein have to do with American safety? Oh yeah, that's right...not a damn thing. Lybia, Iran & North Korea had (and still do, in some cases) far greater ability to harm those in their own region. Of those, only N. Korea has even the most remote capability to harm our own soil.

Don't you get it? The climate was freaking tailor-made to pull the wool over everyones eyes. As a country, the US citizens were immensley vulnerable, and the administration knew it. FEAR runs the world.

Yeah, thank God all those U.S. soldiers are dead and their families lives are ruined because their brave loved ones were sent to fight a war based on false pretenses. Thank God.

Let's discuss this in 20 years or so when you realize how things actually are.

How the actually are, or how they are actually percieved? You're not very familiar with the notion of subjectivity, are you?

    Well, maybe.
I haven't been in the 9th grade since 1978 sorry, I couldn't remember exactly how its set up to work.
I've lived in the real world since I graduated from high school.
You don't begin living until your totally out of school and start slowly awakening to the "real world".
Real world experiences is what starts your awakening to your surroundings.

If this is the case the law needs to be changed.
No way in hell should one judge make a ruling overturning the rights of the people of that state in a situation like I described.
We are talking about voters making decisions and a one judge overruling the
votes of the citizens of that state.
I probably wouldn't have a problem with a panel of judges voting and making a decision.

The judicial system is somewhat out of control, they were suppose to review
the Terry Schiavo case and thumbed their noses at it.
Chaos just doesn't get it or doesn't want to, they weren't suppose to rule
for her to live or die, just to review the case to make sure the proper procedures were done correctly.

The election of 2000 was quite different because we elect presidents based
on the Electorial college, Bush did win the popular vote in Florida btw, no matter how you try and count it.

Exactly. Perception and reality are usually polar opposites. I deal in reality. And, the reality is that Bush is President and liberals just can't stand it.

The reality is, Clinton was the president for 8 years and conservatives just couldn't stand that, either.

I'm surprised that at the age of 56 you still cannot subtract 78 from 105. I'm equally surprised that you still feel compelled to make childish comments at that age.
