you cant really prove that the earth wouldnt have warmed anyways. the best you can do is computer simulations. and there are so many factors in play that those are difficult and often disagree.

global climate, with all the factors there are to consider, is a scientists nightmare. i think the more intellectually honest scietists will admit what a haphazard business it is predicting climate change and why it is happening.

the phrase "we are not sure" wont generate many headlines or win many elections though.

fine, then lets attribute current warming to whatever factors contributed to previous climate changes. whatever brought the earth out of all its previous ice ages. i think we should always keep in mind that earth has been violently changing forever. the earth has warmed and cooled over and over and over, since long before we came along.

i dont think many scientists would agree with your assertion that human-influenced warming is a "fact".

in fact the ipcc definitely disagrees with you, claiming it is "very likely", and that they are over 90% certain that humans are causing the warming. "very likely" is not what you say about facts. i dunno why you said that.

I don't know if this has been brought up or how many have seen Gore's movie, but the current jump is exponentially larger than anything that's happened in the past and it started right around the industrial revolution. I used to think this was a political issue, and I'm sure to some extent it is, but from the information presented by Gore there didn't seem to be any argument. It's actually pretty terrifying to me.

I don't have the time to research it myself, so I'll just take it as a serious warning and try to minimize my contribution to the abuse of earth.

EPA website and not a dissenter here saying one degree warmer in last 100 years.
I'm atonished just how easily people follow a crowd.
Half of this thread is taken up about global warming which is one degree over
    the last 100 years.

We have much more threats to the world we live in such as:
    1) Terrorism mainly by Muslims extremists.
    2) Iran, N Korea, China, Soviet Union (the old KGB is still there Red, I promise)
    3) Diseases and famine.
    4) Natural and man made disasters.

The thing is that we have so many more problems that is more imminent than
global warming and this same crowd that is so stuck on global warming that
they ignore or don't care about more imminent problems.

When these people choose to change thier lifestyle first I may decide to do it
after they do for quite some time.
I find it hilarious how much they attack America, Americans included and ignore other coutries like China, North Korea, etc.
Al Gore for instance, thank god this kook didn't become president.
If we ever do quit talking about it and actually do something about it I have
no problems as long as everyone and every country is on the same level
    playing field.
Until then its all about politics as far as I'm concerned.

First of all welcome back, I wasn't sure you were coming back!

Let me just say that I have no problems with some life style
changes as long as we are all on the same playing field and up front
    and honest with each other.
In other words Al Gore's statement that China can do whatever they want to
and it is America that has to change.
I have a major problem with people like this that attack their own country while giving other countries a free pass.

I really think we need to find a way to move away from oil whether it be
E 85 fuel stations even if its temporary basis until other types are developed.
However I do think we have to answer some of the questions I posted on
this thread in the beginning because without some serious answers we can't
move forward because someone has to lead and mind the store in the right
direction other wise its just chaos.

I really think we could be in a serious fuel crunch before people realize it.
One of my greatest fears is a war with Iran or strike in which OPEC decides
to cut off our oil supply.
There is no way in Heck this country should depend on enemy countries for
fuel which is the life line to our world.

The US is the leading polluter, by a long shot. China is rapidly increasing the amount they pollute and can pass us quickly because of population, but the US has the highest pollution per capita rating by far.

Alot of the apparent cold weather is happening because of the influx of water into the atmosphere. The record lows and extreme snowstorms may seem to indicate that everything is ok, but research has shown that this is a temporary phenomenon that is happening because of global warming. Not only are glaciers melting, the permafrost in Canada is melting too. Organic material trapped in the permafrost will decay and cause further CO2 emissions.

And while an Indian scientist may argue that glaciers in his country are growing, that is also an effect of the temporary cooling of middle latitudes because of melting at the poles. The poles are key.

I'm no expert, but this much I've been exposed to.

Gore sticks another foot in his mouth.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

Al Gore’s Personal Energy Use Is His Own “Inconvenient Truth”
Gore’s home uses more than 20 times the national average

Last night, Al Gore’s global-warming documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, collected an Oscar for best documentary feature, but the Tennessee Center for Policy Research has found that Gore deserves a gold statue for hypocrisy.

Gore’s mansion, located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).

In his documentary, the former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home.

The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average.

Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359.

Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore’s energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006.

Gore’s extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore’s mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year.

“As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore has to be willing to walk the walk, not just talk the talk, when it comes to home energy use,” said Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson.

In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006.

Apparently Al Gores mansion in Tennessee uses 20 times more electricity a year than the average home. What a damn hypocrite.
