Most SWAT/SRT (from my personal experience) teams are moving away from pistol caliber rounds and into the .223 caliber rounds to prevent over penetration.

But if anyone runs 2-3 30-round mags during a home invasion and survives,.. they should move from whatever war zone they live in.

 

Our side arm was the ol’ .45. Lots of stopping power but wouldn’t go through bulkheads. Ship interiors, like homes, are pretty confined. Not conducive to rifles. External threat, that’s different, break out the M-16, m-14, and 50 cal!

 

Pretty sure the marines protecting your ship carried the latter, regardless of confined space unless you were assigned to a sub.

 

How many shootouts happen on US Navy ships? Did you expect to be boarded by pirates and have to engage in hand to hand combat?

I was on small surface ships for the vast majority of my sea duty. Only the aircraft carrier had marines for security.
