I think both Saban and CLM benefit as much from the programs they coach, as the programs benefit from them. I mean ... really ... who's the coach of UAB???? .. I have no clue. Neither does anyone else who doesn't go there.
Well, you can take Les' last five years instead of his first five years and its still a better record. Sorry, but Bamafans trying to credit Les's success to Nick is old and toothless. Nick left Les a 9-3 team and Les went 11-2, 11-2, and 12-2 with it, amigo. Nick was an amazing coach, but LSU upgraded with Les.
After this year is done, Les will have had 5 11+ win seasons. The 2008 and 2009 teams were 8-5 and 9-4 respectively. Damn strong as far as I am concerned.
Slow down there, homeboi. I said the way Saban left the program "didn't hurt CLM's chances of establishing a fine record at LSU." Maybe you think it did, I don't know, but a 9-3 season off the heels of a national championship is OK in my book. Not too many coaches get to take a program over in that kind of shape. Saban didn't at Alabama, and that is a big reason why we are so pumped to be back in national contention. Ya dig? I think Les has done a great job at LSU, amigo. And if he wins Nov 5th he will be in rare air. If not, you should be proud anyway. I wouldn't quite consider that a "bad loss". At the end of the day you'd rather have Les coaching your team, I'd rather have Saban. Don't think that's gonna change...But I do think the outcome of this game should help somewhat justify one of our opinions.
I have said I'm glad Saban came here - and I'm glad he left and now we have Miles. Yes Miles was able to come in and hit the ground running. Just as I'm sure you have no problem agreeing that Saban was able to go 26 - 2 and win a NC with the players Shula brought in.
-Rivals Rankings (They only go back to 2002 on their website) Alabama Year: Recruit Rank: Outcome: '03 49th 4-9 (Shula) '04 15th 6-6 (Shula) '05 18th 10-2 (Shula) '06 11th 6-6 (Shula's last year) '07 17th 7-6 (Nick Saban's first class after late arrival) '08 3 12-2 BCS Sugar Bowl '09 2 14-0 National Champs LSU Year: Recruit Rank: Outcome: '02 15th 8-5 Cotton Bowl (Saban) '03 1 National Champs (Saban) '04 2 9-3 Cap One Bowl (Saban's last year) '05 22 11-2 Peach Bowl (Miles's first year) '06 7 11-2 Sugar Bowl (Miles)(EDITED) '07 4 12-2 National champs Miles) (EDITED) -EDIT- It took 3 years for both coaches to win a title. This chart somewhat explains what each coach left behind at their school in record and talent. I think it's pretty clear the LSU program was left in much better shape for Miles than Alabama's when CNS took over. Recruiting wise, it's not even close. Not a perfect science by any means, and I apologize for any errors....But I think it articulates the topic of what each coach had when they took over.
Yup, and that is why this is going to be such a great game. I can't wait to see how these two teams do against each other. Neither team has faced the caliber of the other, and it's gonna come down to who wants it the most for 4 quarters.
