Actually can't say that I do. I guess the publicity push didn't get it anywhere beyond Markham. What the hell is Markham anyway?

litmachog, Precious has NEVER won in Tiger Stadium. I don't expect him to do so during his stay at Arkansas. So what's your point? Kentucky has a much nicer Stadium than WMS. Too bad you only play Cupcakes in Fayetteville. But, neither compare favorably to Tiger Stadium.

I we only played school like ULL and The Citadel in Tiger Stadium we would be undefeded also. Why don't you play a real opponent in War Memorial, well besides us.

You had me until the Nolan Richardson comment.
    No rivalry is worth that.

This is true we have no true Rivaly, I know the SEC is trying with all its might the Backs BUT until last year it was simply another game for both schools. I think last year stoked the fire a bit. I know it did for me.

I still dont like Auburn but as soon as Tubby is shown the door I believe them and their fans will get back to being the class they once were. (Bo Jackson days etc etc) (No offense Chuck)

Don't know about you, but after watching Arkansas drive down the field and score a TD to win in the final seconds of the game last season, I'm feeling some of that "hatred" for the hogs right now.

However, I think we could possibly create an out-of-conference rival. Personally, Texas could fit the bill. Consider the past year in sports--starting with the, *gasp*sigh*, Cotton Bowl. Then, follow that up with the beating the Lady Longhorns gave our Lady Tigers in the Women's NCAA basketball tourny. Now, we have our softball team heading out to Austin for regionals where, non other than our year-long nemesis, Texas. Heck, I'm not going to be surprised if we end up seeing the Longhorns somewhere in the postseason for baseball! We've been seeing them so much this year that burnt orange has become a color that makes me puke!

And on a personal note, what REALLY makes it all aggrivating for me is that my roommate up here in Boston is a HUGE Longhorn fan. Half the place is purple and gold and the other half is burnt orange and white.

Sooooooo...I propose we just play Texas first game of the season every year (similar to that little series we had with Texas A&M a few years back), and then just play Texas in all sports. I think it's a win/win situation for both schools as both boast 2 of the most productive athletic departments in the country.

Never happen with the Texas schools. Way to much recruiting implications. Both schools would be against it. That is why Saban was so opposed to Skip insisting we play Louisiana schools.

We need to find (and it will take time to build a rivalry) something like ND and USC has. A school we play every year, OOC I think Va Tech would be a great one. You know like FSU/Miama ND/USC Mich/ND

But we want nothing to do with A&M trust me, although now we would beat them like a Drum, their fan base alone makes me NOT want to have to travel to that A&M. They are a horrible bunch.

UT would be nice, BUT with the recruiting issues niether coach would want that rivalry.

Actually I would like to see us renew the Texas A&M/LSU series. It used to be a big game back in the day and it makes perfect sense geographically and competitively. If the Texas schools are so afraid that losing to us will cause them to hemmorhage home-state talent in the recruiting wars, that tells me they are not doing a good job recruiting. In a talent rich state like Texas, there is really no excuse for that. The "it'll hurt recruiting" argument is SOOOOO lame and pathetic.

Rivalries are not just created overnight. Yes, it would be interesting to have some out-of-conference rival that we would play each year, a la USC-ND, but as of now, we don't play a game like that. LSU has too much football tradition to just start a "rivalry" against a school like Va. Tech, although I think the home-and-home with them is a great idea. True rivalries take years to develop, and in those years the fan bases should come to develop a passion (a hatred?) for the other school. Again, that does not happen overnight.

Although there remains controversy about this series, we already have such an OOC rival. We have played Texas A&M 49 times to date (LSU leads 26-20-3). For many years we played each year, with the game falling on the first date of the season throughout most of the late '80s and early '90s. Unfortunately, the lack of forward thinking in the prior LSU athletic administration resulted in the end this series, setting off a storm of controversy in College Station. Still, many A&M fans want to see the rivalry renewed. Those that state they hate LSU and want nothing to do with the series renewal are proof positive of the passion fans of each school have for the other. Plus, the differences in the two fan bases makes for a very interesting weekend -- the partying, tailgating, often drunk, loud and obnoxious LSU fans and the yell practice attending, male cheerleader watching, put-your-arms-around-each-other-and-sway A&M fans make for and interesting mixture. This kind of mixture and the stereotypes of each fan base are some of the reasons why the Ole Miss series was and remains hot. A border war, recruiting issues, the lingering issue about the cancellation of the series in '95, the differences in the two fan bases, the history of the series and the attention it can generate nationally are some of the reasons to renew the LSU-A&M series. If we're looking for an OOC rival, we have one right next door.

As for playing Arkansas in Shreveport (and the same argument holds true for the talk of playing A&M in Reliant), college football is meant to be played on college campuses, with college cheerleaders, college marching bands and college football fans. Although a few rivalries thrive in neutral sites (UT-OU, UF-UGA are rare examples), most neutral sites cannot replicate the atmosphere associated with a game on campus. We only have 7 days in Tiger Stadium as it is. Do you really want to reduce this number just to visit Independence Stadium?

Speaking of Va Tech. Someone told me yesterday that they saw somewhere on the internet that Va Tech was trying to back out of the game here in '04. Couldn't remember what site he said and have yet to find anything on my own...probably just BS. Anyone else here this?

The Ole Miss rivalry isn't completely dead. When I was a student in the late 1990s, the GTHOM chant got going a few times. And just last year, didn't the student section chant "Eli Sucks" for the last several minutes of the game?
