For me, it was never about safety. Since then, it has never been about safety and saving lies. It is about fear and power.
omicron being easier to spread, but super non-deadly, seems like a gift to society. all it does it increase herd immunity at almost no risk. its like a natural vaccine. its like nature works this out on its own and doesnt condemn our species to eternal fright
Vaccine mandates have been common in this country for a long time now, without much complaint. Now, mostly because of trumpism, it's a political matter. Having said all that, it's STILL a choice. Show me one single case where any adult has been strapped down and forced to take the vaccine. If you don't like the safety rules at or on your job, quit. It is well within the rights and duties of employers and certain government officials to mandate vaccines.
No, but the ones that are considered successful virtually eradicate the target illness. Polio didn't mutate into different forms as fast as scientists could develop treatments for the old ones. Covid will be like the flu, continuously developing its own new strains that will have to be dealt with as they pop up. Hopefully, like the evidence is beginning to suggest with omicron, the new variants will be milder and milder and it will cease to be a deadly threat. It will become a readily treatable malady that we will learn to live with. That process will go faster if the powers that be don't keep acting like this is another bubonic plague.
Sure, if you're a fan of tyranny and government over reach, then I guess you're right. And I dont care what you say, when you're forced to make a decision under any sort of duress, then its not really a choice. Luckily the courts are more sensible then you are and have halted enforcement of vaccine mandates. Even though its temporary, I expect it will be ruled unconstitutional in the long run.

Ya know .... interestingly, we don't know that polio is eradicated in the US. The case of Polio is similar to COVID and the FLU. The vaccine didn't really prevent infections, it only prevented the infection from invading the systemic compartment, and thus prevented poliomyelitis. Needless to say, we don't go around testing people to see if they have polio in their poop!! .. but that doesn't mean it is not there. Smallpox was a different story. Smallpox had to cross the systemic compartment to reach its "window of transmission" .. the pustule stage. When the smallpox vaccine came out, believe it or not, people still caught smallpox for a while, but they only experienced the initial flu-like syndrome, but they didn't progress to the pustule stage where it was most contagious. The result is that each infection was the end of the line with an R0 of ZERO. That combined with no animal host, smallpox went the way of the do-do bird. COVID is here to stay. As others have previously said, the mutation factor will result in its severity being cyclic with some years being more serious and others not so much. The fact that it is becoming more contagious does not bode well for it spontaneously disappearing like SARS and MERS did. But .. we can still hope. If our GOVERNMENT was even 1/100th as enthusiastic about promoting Vitamin D screening and supplement as they have been about this vaccine, COVID would have never risen to a crisis issue. I just wish I was a billionaire .. and could take out public service announcements for Vitamin D. Doesn't matter if your vaccinated or not .... get your Vit D checked and supplement to a level of 50 ng/ml.
