good question. i find it fascinating how a little thing like this can spread and suddenly it is cool and everyone has to have it, for no real reason. why would you see people wearing this thing and decide you wanted to? ok, i can see if you want to give money to cancer charities or whatever, but it is only 1$, so you havent really done much by buying one. i really just dont see what would drive someone to have the latest goofy little fashion accessory. and with politicians, it is particularly annoying, becaus you know john kerry has the stupid little thing because he thinks it does something good for his image. it just seems silly that the latest cool thing is that everyone has to have a yellow rubber band. the other thing i am mildly annoyed by is the ipod. there are plenty of other mp3 players you could buy but this one has white headphones and is made by "cool" company apple, so everyone has to have it. i have noticed an average one 1.7 ipods per subway car i ride on, and roughly 0.9 lance armstrong bracelets. both these things are like trucker hats. at no point are they any more or less cool than they were before, but for whatever reason, they are super popular. i dont buy it. i will stick with old school wool baseball caps.
