Yes he is still fantastic for a freshman QB but that's not what we were comparing him to in the thread. The OP compared him with 2 heisman winners and Manziel falls flat in that comparison. aTm put the game on his shoulders and he couldn't keep it up against a stellar D. No surprise but he played tough, made some good plays, made some freshman mistakes. He needs to change how he scrambles around in the pocket if he wants to stay in this league.

You'd think our O would be better, simply because they go against our D everyday in practice.

no he is not, he is a gimmick QB in a spread option, with decent speed. He did not play tough, he made terrible decisions, our secondary finally got smart and baited him into horrible throws. Johnny Football was Johnny Beer league Softball on Saturday.

Thank you....I said that in a thread earlier ...not sure if it was this one...he is a bit better of a passer than martinez.....but he is a system qb....put hi in a pro style offense he would not survive, he absaloutley has to be in a spread offense. thats the difference between him and cam...cam is big enough and has the tools to do both, thats why he has been succesfull in the NFL....johnny M would not be succesfull in the nfl.

By the way...Tiger Fan you need to come in and take your medicine....you were WAY off on this tread!!

How the heck did Manziel get that nickname? Johnny Football, how original...

Reminds me of the nickname "Donny Baseball," for Don Mattingly. Great ballplayer, but his team did nothing during his career.

He is a damn good QB for a Freshman. Johnny Football doesnt have a team equipped to play against the elite of the SEC. If aTm were still in the Big 12 they would have a legit shot at winning the conference. Look what he did against LSU pre-adjustments. He lead them right down the field, gashing us. Many times he left LSU defenders grasping at air when it appeared like they had him for a big loss. LSU was able to adjust, keep him contained. Improved coverage schemes. He doesnt have the WRs. His lack of experience was also a big factor. He tried to do too much. He is a play maker and a gambler so you will get those types of mistakes. Watch out the next few years if aTm can recruit SEC caliber players to go around him. The kid is the real deal.

If he's as bad as you say he is, then it must speak wonders about our own team that we only beat them by 5...

His WRs seem to be much better than ours. We caused him to make mistakes after we stopped trying to contain him, let him out of the pocket, and ran him down. I knew we had the defensive speed to let him go and catch him. We did, and more often than not, he made mistakes in the process.

When we adjusted, it was away from containment. We let him out and chased him down. That was the adjustment.

Over time, Manziel's slight frame will be a detriment to him against the elite SEC defenses.
