They practice on the Cane during the spring. Only real issue with it is that its only wide enough for 4 boats. A lot of teams from up north come to Natchitoches during the spring to practice. A few weeks ago, NSU hosted Bama, Texas, Tulane and Central Oklahoma for practice and scrimmage races. Texas was goooooood.
That's the coxswain, the person steering the boat and yelling "Row! Row! Row!" Very common to have a woman cox on a men's boat at the college level. NSU's is also a girl.
One more time....we leave tomorrow for the John Hunter Regatta in Gainesville, GA, on the '92 Atlanta Olympics venue. 10 hour drive and the forecast for Saturday is horrible, but it will probably be the last chance we get to see our son row in person. 21 entries in the 4-man open category, and they'll have to finish 1st or 2nd in their heat to make the finals. Northwestern will be up against Florida, GA Tech, Virginia Tech and a some smaller schools in their heat. LSU, NC State, Uga, Clemson, Wake Forest and Minnesota are also entered.
You should know better. They are lighter for the most part but that is secondary to the more important elements. Is there anyone better at yelling and controlling than a woman?
