1. I'm honestly on the fence about whether Boise really wants to be in the big leagues or if they're just saber-rattling. They're fully aware of the reasons why big schools won't schedule them, but continue to try.

This Longhorn Network deal has the potential to blow up spectacularly in UT's face. Whatever's left of the Big 12 will be a joke with A&M, OU, and Ok St. gone and Nebraska in the Big 10. They will probably balk initially at the prospect of asking to join another conference, which would make them independent. And, frankly, I think it's questionable that Texas has the kind of national fanbase that ND has to make that work.
  2. I wonder also how the possible conference breakups and super-conference deals would affect other sports besides football. Basketball is a big revenue-generator too. Do you form super-conferences for football only, but leave the old conference memberships in place for basketball, for example? Would that even be possible?
  3. Does this mean that Florida will likely not be a permanant game in the future? That would be horrible, I really like the LSU/Florida tradition!

I guess now we need to add a team to the east. My guess would be Fla State.

I hate, despise, loathe, anything regarding Texas A&M and thing they will be a parasitical blight on the SEC brand. I wholeheartedly disagree with the SEC even allowing such a move. I really don't care how great it is for our conference...in my eyes it is bad for our school and LSU comes before any type of conference loyalty. The SEC deserves better than some cult school with male cheerleaders and one of the worst stadiums I have ever visited.

  5. I think super conferences could spell the end to the BCS. I always hoped, in the past, that the SEC and Big 12 would leave the BCS and have their own championship.
    1 person likes this.
  6. Frankly, I'm strongly in favor of ditching permanent opponent. We get Bama and Florida every year, one of those games always being on the road. The West is a murderer's row as it is for a championship run without a perennial contender on the schedule every season, while State gets Kentucky and Ole Miss gets Vandy.
  7. I fear it could spell the end of the SEC as we know it. It hardly seems worth diluting the best on-field product in college football today for a few extra millions. It ain't like the SEC is hurting for money.
  8. My memory tells me the SEC has been a leader, more than a reactor. Weren't they the first to form the two division set-up when they added Arky and South Carolina back in the very early 90's.... with a conference championship game? I remember that caused a lot of shuffling in the set-up of the new Big 12, ACC, and the Big East.

The Big Ten made noise on two fronts lately: the development of the Big Ten Network; and the heavy talk of a 16 league conference, especially expanding eastward.

The Big Ten backed off big time, adding only Nebraska, as, in the words of Commish Delany, "Our intent was not to be looked at as a bully".

The timing was not good two years ago. Things have changed, mostly due to the Horns' arrogance. The Pac 10, Big Ten, ACC, Big East, and now the Big 12 have all had major changes in the years since the SEC added their championship game. What looks like a normal "why change" world to an SEC fan is not shared by any other conference.

Given this fact, the SEC is again taking a leadership role. My guess is the SEC can take A&M and just sit back for a month or two, waiting for all hell to break loose. The Big Ten will immediately see the door ajar and strike out after Syracuse, Rutgers, Missouri, and perhaps Pitt.

My guess is this is about viewership geography, so I don't see Georgia Tech or even FSU as great additions to the SEC. I'd go after A&M, TCU, Oklahoma, and either Missouri or VT. Right now, the SEC has only one of the top ten TV markets... Atlanta at #8. The Dallas/Ft Worth TV market is # 5 and the Houston market is # 10.

    but that's just me...
  9. I like things the way they are and hope nothing changes.

  10. Me too. I like our current rivalries.
