I was simply giving you some material insight into why people are always tooting Leak's horn. The kid is legit and a real gamer - when I did a little research I was impressed with the numbers and thought I should post them.

The reason I originally juxtaposed Russell and Leak was to give us all some perspective. My point was that Leak has all the physical and mental skills and valuable experience and he hasn't really sniffed a National Title. I only meant it to provide perspective because I know that sometimes we easily lose sight of the fact that he's a Sophomore and has a very demanding road ahead of him. Russell may get the biggest test of any QB in America next year - the next 6 months will change his life forever. Hero or bust? Do or do not, there is no try at the QB position for LSU in 2005...

This is my favorite Chris Leak highlight:

Jessie Daniels chases him down like he's a softball catcher and sets the Tigers up for the win!

Who knows. B4 the 2003 season many of us were wondering if Mauk could carry the load even if his foot had healed. But just like 2003 it appears our fate will be determined by our play at the QB position. Personally I like our chances. I doubt that JR will regress. I believe that he can only get better. As they (I have no idea who "they " is) say, "we shall see. "

I am optimisitic and hopefull for a better year from JR. If he has a good year at QB, we go 9-2, with a little upside surprise we make 10-1, and if he wildly exceeds my expectations we could go undefeated.

I think JR underestimated the difficulty of the position in college, didn't put enough mental effort into the deal, underperformed last year, recognized he hadn't put enough into it, and committed himself to getting better. By the end of the season, he looked better to me. Played like a house on fire in the Cap One bowl, after a ho-hum 3 quarters from the other QBs. He made a series of GREAT throws in the 4th qtr.

My gut says he gets better this year, still makes some soph mistakes, but we go 9-2 or 10-1. The rest of the team is GOOD!

I leave some room to be dissappointed. JR did seem to lack some mobility at times.

That's what I like about college football. The kids are still developing, and you never know exactly whats going to happen. I think JR will continue to develop over the next 3 seasons.

Flynn also has time to develop, and I hope he does. I think it will take RP a while to learn the offense, and I'd like to see JR have a great season and red shirt RP. If we see much of RP, our season won't be going that well. Unless RP is just that good and he really wins the job. A QB that can throw and run can be a big advantage, look at Vincent Young over at UT.

I don't know about that. Talk of college football? I doubt it. Both Russell and Randall showed signs of brilliance last year at times, and seriously struggled at others. So Russell playing well right at the end didn't prove anything. I'm not raggin on the kid. I think he will be great, but I'm just saying it was up and down all year, so you can't say just because he ended on an "up" that he's all of the sudden going to be consistent. Yes he was young, and yes I think he'll be fine, but I just don't think the attitude in the media would've changed if LSU had won the game. Everything I've seen says something like "if Russell plays like he did in the Capitol One Bowl, LSU will be fine"...and I think that would be the case if we'd won too. That's all.

Vince Young is listed as one of the TOP 3 Heisman candidates because of a bowl game right after ours that his team won in the last seconds instead of lost. If his team loses that game, his performance was still great and he still gets some mention, but he's not top 3.
If LSU wins that game, and Texas wins their's, Jan. 1 becomes "the day the new generation of quarterbacks was born" or something like that. I honestly believe it would have made a big difference in pre-season hype. Now whether that would translate to a big season, I don't know (I've still got big-time doubts about Young).
