Putting aside all argument about how distressed the financial positions are of these players, because frankly we really don't know, I think we just have a difference of opinion about what their actions say about them. You're right, I'm not in their position, so maybe I can't relate, but I'm of the opinion that even if a person is hard up for cash, it should be a cold day in Hell before he sells an SEC Championship ring. You seem to be a lot more forgiving about it than I would be, but you're entitled to your opinion and its a valid one.
You Georgia fans make a good argument. While I think the writer of the article needs to get his damn facts straight, I do agree totally with Rodney Reed and Corey Webster. But the idea of them selling the rings they earned just irks me. While it is there ring to do with whatever they want, I still think it shows somewhat a lack of character. I guess I don't have much room to talk since I would never need to sell it for money, but still...as Reed said "I hope they bury me with my ring." That kind of proudness is unbelivable...
I also think Saban would have had their asses had any LSU player tried to sell their ring...Man would I not like to sit down in his office after getting caught for that.
How can selling the rings really be justified? Selling the ring to pay family medical bills makes sense, in fact it is a award winning piece of journalism if some young reporter decided to run with it (with a piece about the unjust suffering of college football players in so dire a need for money, they had to sell something very valuable to them) . . . but for spring break money, or new rims on the ride doesn't cut it, nor does it cause football fans to feel sorry for the player selling the ring. Is it really no big deal? When it happened the Georgia coach seemed pretty upset, and media didn't make the situation out to be "they had to do it". I don't wear any jewerly. But I have my High school graduation ring, State Champ ring, and my LSU graduation ring all saved in a special place. I don't make a ton of money, and could melt down the rings to live a little better, but they mean something to me. I just don't see how what the Georgia players did is not only right, but something to give them sympathy for. . . sounds like a PAC 10 thing to do. I don't understand why anyone would want to buy one either. If you didn't earn it, why own it? What possible value could it have? Those rings are earned on the field, not bought on the internet.
I've been to Florida for Spring Break about 6 times since I was 18...Not actually every year, but two years, we made two trips (had to wash clothes and then drive back, LOL)... I have PAID to stay in a hotel twice... If those guys were half as "good" in other areas as they were in the areas that matter during SPRING BREAK, they wouldn't have had to have sold a damn thing to get there! Money is the LAST thing you need at Spring Break...Just a tan and the ability to take your shirt off and not be embarassed...
Don't bead the dead horse guys. The ring deal was stupid. It is over with and if they did not learn anything from it, well that's their problem. It has nothing to do with the game tomorrow, except to give shallow ones something to make issue with. Smack talking means nothing - especially on this board. It will all be addressed on the field tomorrow. If anyone here does not believe this is going to be the best game in the SEC in several years they are wrong. I hope my UGA team wins, but I am not dumb enough to put money on this game or to talk smack about the LSU that is worthy of respect. If you Tiger fans don't respect this Dawg team, I just hope that your coach and players feel the same way. This game will not be decided until the fourth quarter. It may even go to the final minute of the game. "Sucess without humility is arrogance."
If they paid their way to school, couldn't they then work for money? or is that against ncaa rules too?
I dont care what other dawg fans say That was embarrassing. You dont sell all that hard work for a few thousand bucks. UGA 34 LSU 14 UGA 3 and 0 versus LSU in the last three meetings. The bayou is rather smelly.
